Don’t Nod, the developers of the critically acclaimed Life is Strange video game and Remember Me have made their 2020 game, Tell Me Why free for Pride Month. Don’t Nod first started giving away the game for Pride Month back in June of 2021 which is when I picked up my copy of the game. I’ve always been a fan of Don’t Nod’s games and I especially like how they aren’t shy of adding positive LGBTQ+ representation into their games which is also why I’m a fan of Tell Me Why.
Gameplay Of Tell Me Why
Tell Me Why’s gameplay is similar to that of the gameplay from Don’t Nod’s other games Life Is Strange and Twin Mirror. It’s a third-person adventure game that sees you play two different characters as you investigate different locations and use the characters’ psychic links/bonds to help solve puzzles. I’ve been a fan of Don’t Nod’s games since Remember Me and I also really enjoyed Life Is Strange too. If you’re a fan of point-and-click games like me you’ll probably like adventure games like Tell Me Why. They’re more about the story than any complex gameplay mechanics or combat, and some can be quite relaxing and cozy.
Protagonists And Setting
Tell Me Why features a pair of twins named Tyler and Alyson Ronan that gamers will get to play as throughout the game and can alternate control of during some sections of the game. It’s revealed pretty early on that Tyler is a trans man and the two reunite after being separated for ten years. Tell Me Why takes place in the twins’ home state of Alaska in a fictional town called Delos and Don’t Nod’s depiction of Alaskan life is pretty accurate.
Pride Month And Rainbow Capitalism
As someone that’s Ace and part of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m grateful that companies are willing to acknowledge our existence but many only do so to make a dollar and do nothing else to support the community. Don’t Nod on the other hand gives away Tell Me Why every June, a game that features a trans character which we don’t see much of in gaming. While it’s just them giving away a video game every year, that may be more than a lot of companies out there do for Pride month and they should be commended for it.
For anyone who reads this who is part of the LGBTQ+ community and feels like they can’t come out due to unsafe circumstances or needs some help, there are organizations out there such as The Trevor Project, and GLAAD also has a list of resources as well.
