2K Serves First Tennis Game Since 2011 With Top Spin 2K25

In the first quarter of 2024, what is “old” has become “new” again in Entertainment and Gaming. Fallout has been restored as one of the hottest IPs on the scene entering the spring; meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson resurfaced to electrify pro wrestling crowds once again. Fittingly, 2K Games hopes for a smashing success in resurrecting Top Spin 2K25, a tennis sports simulation game left to die on a previous console generation.

Top Spin is a Game of Patience

It has been over a decade since sports video game enthusiasts have had their hands on a new tennis title. Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” was spinning atop the Billboard charts in 2011. Despite positive scores from the press and rave reviews from players, Top Spin 4 never received a proper renewal on this newer generation of consoles. Therefore, tennis gamers had to play an outdated system or simply play tennis at all.

With old-generation games being remastered time and again, it comes as a relief for video game fans to get more than “a fresh coat of paint” on 2011’s tennis title. Even yearly sports releases like NFL’s Madden series are due for some significant game changes. Top Spin 2K25 feels like an entirely brand new game between the player’s models, the court physics, and the stunning venues.

With the return of the 2K franchise, gamers will have the opportunity to step between the lines once again and live their best racket-swinging dreams. Grand Slam locations like the U.S. Open & Wimbledon are faithfully recreated in stunning details that were a mere fantasy at the start of the last decade. Outdoor arenas include day & night options for a true Tournament experience!

Now in the hands of developer Hanger 13, the company behind the critically acclaimed 2K Mafia franchise, the newest edition of the tennis simulation title features a good combination of household names and upcoming stars. Tennis fans can relive the glory days of the Williams sisters battling each other on the clay. Maybe get those grass skills up to see if you can guide 20-year-old Coco Gauff over legend Maria Sharapova in straight sets?

On the male side of the roster, tennis superstars Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Carlos Alcaraz, and others make an appearance. Seven-time Grand Slam champion, John McEnroe, serves as a trainer in an easy-to-understand training area of the game that teaches gamers the ins and outs of the tennis court.

MyPlayer Career Mode Shines in Top Spin 2K25

In addition to the tennis greats of the game, players can create and custom a MyPlayer of their own to compete between the lines. The MyPlayer career allows competitors to step into the tennis shoes of a professional and experience a tour season(s). Over time, your character will level up via coaching, equipment, and stat upgrades to allow your avatar to become one of the Wimbledon elite, just like Federer or Venus Williams.

Top Spin 2K25 currently features a positive score on Meta Critic. The biggest complaint is the requirement for a constant internet connection to play 75% of the game even if playing a career and/or solo gaming mode. The tennis sim title was released on April 26, 2024, and is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. With consoles covered, all we need is some Virtual Reality tennis action!
