Assassin’s Creed is one of the most iconic franchises that Ubisoft has ever created. From the original release to Shadows which is releasing this year. Every game features stealth-based action gameplay that allows the player to fulfill his assassin fantasy in various historical settings. Each game offers a brand-new set of characters, a new interesting story as well as some gameplay changes. The release of Shadows is just around the corner and now is the perfect time to reflect on the best games in the series.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Considered by many as the best pirate game as well as the best game of the franchise, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was released on October 29, 2013. The game focused heavily on the naval aspect and did it wonderfully. Players were able to sail around the sea while listening to memorable shanties. Naval combat was also challenging yet satisfying. The soundtrack of the game is also incredibly iconic.
Set during the golden age of the pirate world, this game featured Edward Kenway who is stuck in the battle between the Assassins and the Templars. The character development of Edward is well done with the perfect balance of him being hilarious as well as serious. The combat was well-designed and was an upgrade from what the previous games had to offer.
Assassin’s Creed III
Assassin’s Creed III was released after the popular Ezio trilogy and had a lot of expectations from it. It finally released on October 30, 2012, and finished the story of Desmond Miles that started in the original game. The gameplay and mechanics of the game varied quite a lot from the previous games but in a good way. People had their issues with the game once it was released but now looking back it is one of the best games of the franchise.
The story follows the character of Connor Kenway in the American Revolution era. After seeing his village burn and his mother dying, Connor sets out to become an Assassin. The story is emotional, immersive, and gripping. The atmosphere of the game is amazing and the parkour is thrilling as well. The combat was also quite different from the previous games and had much more brutal kill animations.
Assassin’s Creed Unity
Assassin’s Creed Unity had a rough launch but over the years it has improved massively and now remains one of the best if not the best games in the franchise. The game follows the character of Arno Dorian in the setting of the French Revolution. The best thing about this game is that the parkour system is amazing and without a doubt one of the best in all of gaming.
The parkour of this game is beautifully complemented by its beautiful graphics and environment. The stealth system is also incredibly well-designed. The combat is also different from other games of the series and has a skill ceiling to it. This makes it all the more satisfying. The NPCs of this game are surprisingly for a Ubisoft game very responsive. Overall the game flows very well with all of its mechanics and elements making it the best Assassin’s Creed game.
