When the Nintendo Amiibo figures were announced, collectors weren’t just excited about the in-game aspect of the figures. They provided another item to collect. As with any collectible, over time, some have become more rare than others. While some are obviously rare due to factory defects, limited runs, or store exclusives, some rare ones may surprise you. Here are three you may not realize are rare.
Nintendo Amiibo: Wii Fit Trainer
When the Nintendo Amiibo was announced, not many people rushed out to get the Wii Fit Trainer. The fitness guru from the Wii Fit series helped people get in shape through various exercises, and it surprised many when the character was included in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Because of this, it is one of the rare Amiibos out there.
Many of the other characters have been re-released when a new game comes out. Mario has different variations due to a new game being released yearly. The Wii Fit trainer doesn’t see a yearly release, so her ego hasn’t hit the shelves since 2014. If you loved the Wii Fit trainer, you have a rare Nintendo Amiibo.
Nintendo Amiibo: Captain Falcon
Even though many people have not played the F-Zero games, Captain Falcon is a beloved character. His Falcon Punch and appearances in countless memes make him a fan favorite. The figure sold out quickly on release and had limited restocks. Similar to the Wii Fit Trainer, F-Zero games are not dropping in North America on a yearly basis. Many of the new Nintendo Amiibo figures drop with the release of a new game.
This is a common theme with the rarity of some of the basic figures. They were insanely popular at launch but then never saw any restocks. Hang onto that Captain Falcon Nintendo Amiibo!
A Surprising Pair Is Very Rare
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are some of the most popular characters in Nintendo’s arsenal. However, their Nintendo Amiibo figures are quite rare. Unlike Mario, Luigi, and Bowser, these two have never gotten a re-release, even in a different pose or look. Donkey Kong did get a small release with a new Mario game but it was a different pose. At one point, the figures were common but have become scarce.
For the Nintendo Amiibo collectors, it is easy to remember the store exclusives or the ultra-rare ones. However, there are plenty of Amiibos that are unexpectedly rare. If you are doing any spring cleaning, don’t forget to check how rare your Ammibo might be!
