With anticipation continuing to grow for the first title in the sixth generation of Monster Hunter games, many have been expressing their views on the older monsters needed in Monster Hunter Wilds. Even though each game comes with its original monsters, it’s always nice to see a familiar face before you whack it with your Great Sword. Here’s a list of five of those beloved monsters and some honorable mentions that players worldwide hope to reappear in the game.
Lagiacrus the Lord of the Seas
Lagiacrus is a name you’ve likely been hearing on repeat if you’ve been following Monster Hunter Wilds news, rumors, or speculations. The Lord of the Seas and flagship of Monster Hunter Tri made its last mainline appearance in Generations Ultimate back in 2017. In its introductory game, players were able to fight Lagiacrus underwater, something else many players would love to see brought back to Wilds.
This monster quickly became adored by players worldwide who were then disappointed when the flashy Leviathan didn’t show in World. As explained by Gaijin Hunter, a popular Monster Hunter content creator, this was because the team behind World faced many technical issues trying to get the monster’s skeleton and physics to function properly on the game’s uneven terrain. Players are hoping since technology has advanced, The Lord of the Seas will be able to return since it is high on the list of monsters needed in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Najarala the Twisting Snake Wyvern
Representing the minuscule Snake Wyvern category of monsters, Najarala was last seen in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. This burrowing serpent can deliver paralyzing venom to its prey and fling its specialized tail plates at its enemies. These tail plates can also be shattered and littered across the ground, causing anyone unprepared to suffer from the Stun status upon making contact with them.
Najarala and its sub-species, Tidal Najarala, are the only two Large Monsters categorized as Snake Wyverns. This category seems to suffer the same issues as Lagiacrus since most of their bodies touch the ground. This would’ve caused a lot of clipping issues on uneven terrain. Fans of Najarala are hoping these issues have been fixed and wholeheartedly believe it’s one of the monsters needed in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Gammoth the Giant Beast
Gammoth is one of the four flagships of Monster Hunter Generations, referred to as The Fated Four. Unlike the other three members of the group, this massive Fanged Beast hasn’t made a mainline reappearance since Generations Ultimate. However, she has appeared in the second title of the Monster Hunter Stories spin-off series. This monster’s sheer size makes her a struggle to work with.
If you’re wondering why I’m referring to Gammoth as female, that’s because every Gammoth the player fights is female just like every fightable Mizutsune, another member of The Fated Four, is male. As honorable mentions, it would be incredible for Mizutsune, Glavenus, and Astalos to return to Wilds. While those three had their times to shine in World and Rise, it would be nice to see the group together once again. They are all jotted on the list of monsters needed in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Agnaktor the Fire Pike Wyvern
Agnaktor is a Leviathan introduced in Monster Hunter Tri. Its last fiery mainline appearance was in Generations Ultimate. Since it has a similar skeleton to Lagiacrus, it would be easy to understand why it hasn’t returned. However, Monster Hunter Rise teased this monster’s appearance but never delivered. In the Lava Caverns locale, players encounter Small Monsters known as Uroktor. These creatures are the juvenile versions of Agnaktor.
It’s unclear why the team for Rise would add them when Agnaktor would be left off the roster, but some players did not appreciate this. This is why CAPCOM should make it up to fans of the Fire Pike Wyvern by adding it to the game. Perhaps, we could even get some Monster Hunter Wilds news or a new trailer that confirms Agnaktor will be in the game. At the moment, fans can only hope.
Zamtrios the Monster Shark
While categorized as an Amphibian instead of a fish, Zamtrios bottoms out this list in all its finned beauty. It was last seen in Generations Ultimate. Just like Agnaktor, Rise teased the appearance of Zamtrios only for it to be a no-show. Found in the Frost Islands locale, players can encounter and be annoyed by the blood-sucking Zamite. It’s a juvenile form of Zamtrios. Again, it’s unclear why the juvenile form was added to the game while neglecting the adult form.
There are only a handful of monsters in the Amphibian category, which is why Zamtrios is on the list of monsters needed in Monster Hunter Wilds. Seeing that Rise only gave us a taste of the blue-scaled monster, that need is especially strong.
Current Confirmed Monsters on the Roster
While a lot remains in the unknown related to Monster Hunter World news, we do have the names of some of the Large Monsters appearing in the game. Making his reappearance is Rathalos, the first-ever flagship of the series. It feels like there will never be a Monster Hunter game without him. As for new monsters, we have Chatacabra and Balahara on the roster. Chatacabra is a frog-like Amphibian while Balahara is a Leviathan one may confuse as being a creature from Dune.
We also have one confirmed but unnamed new monster at the moment. All we know about it is that it looks like has a Flying Wyvern skeleton. It also has powerful lightning attacks and can seemingly use its body as a sort of rail gun. We also know that it is somehow important to the story. However, we won’t have much more Monster Hunter Wilds news until Gamescom in Germany. That takes place in late August.
