Best Nintendo Switch Online Games to Play in 2024

It’s no secret that Nintendo Switch Online is currently carrying the console right now. There have been three major titles released, not counting remakes, in the 10 months since Pikmin 4 hit shelves. There just haven’t been many major first-person titles recently, presumably due to the looming announcement and launch of the Switch 2… whenever that may come.

Nevertheless, the hybrid platform is far from a useless gaming platform. There may be better days in the future, but the best days from the past are available for gamers to try in the present. Whether you subscribe to the Expansion Pack or not, there are so many classic titles to try. Here are the best ones to play as you wait for new releases in the future.

Nintendo Switch Online NES Games

The original Nintendo titles can be found on this version of Switch Online. That means the original Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda are right here! Those two alone make this worth checking out, but my personal recommendation is to play one of the best side-scrollers ever in Super Mario Bros. 3.

That’s only a few of the epic titles that the NES has to offer. We also recommend playing Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby’s Adventure, Kid Icarus, Mario Bros., and so many others. Some of the most iconic games of all time are in this library, so it is definitely worth a scroll.

The SNES Is Full Of Great Games

The SNES had a ton of fantastic games, and most of them can be yours with Nintendo Switch Online. The absolute best game this platform has to offer is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. I cannot recommend this game enough. Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Star Fox are also more than worth your time.

There is a whole lot more available, though. This has a vast library of games everyone loved playing. You can play F-Zero, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby’s Dream Land 3, Earthbound, Super Punch-Out, and Star Fox 2. The SNES was a great console thanks in no small part to titles like these.

GameBoy and GameBoy Advance Are Back With NSO

The GameBoy was the first handheld console of its kind and was absolutely revolutionary. It also had a lot of excellent games to play. Those include Dr. Mario, Tetris, Metroid II, and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/SeasonsThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX is one of the best Zelda games and the best game on this service.

GameBoy Advance has more excellent additions. It comes as part of the Expansion Pack, but with it, you can play Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Kuru Kuru Kurunin, and Fire Emblem. The best game on this, though, is The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.

N64 Switch Online Has Classics

The N64 version of Nintendo Switch Online, also locked behind the Expansion Pack, has some of the greatest video games in history. Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, GoldenEye 007, and Dr. Mario are all part of the library. Pokémon Snap, Mario Party (and 2 and 3), and Excitebike 64 are there too.

The best games on Nintendo Switch Online, however, are both The Legend of ZeldaOcarina of Time is considered by many to be the best video game ever, and its sequel Majora’s Mask is another all-time classic. Play Ocarina first and redefine how you feel about gaming, then finish the duology with one of the most interesting Zelda games there is. Thanks to Nintendo Switch Online, you can do this very easily.
