The new Valheim update: Ashlands, has flooded both experts and beginners alike with excitement and suspense. With a new biome to explore, it also meant there would be new food, enemies, materials, and best of all, weapons.
Although some weapons are similar to what Valheim fans have already received, there is also much to play around with in terms of power, abilities, and overall rigor of the game. Often compared to the rigor of Dark Souls, Valheim is known to be an unforgiving game but with the new update, it may just be a gift from Odin himself.
5. Ashlands’ Thundering Berserker Axes
How special is a Thundering Berserker Axe? Quite. Not only is this axe ramped up with a chance to initiate a lightning effect and damage, it also has a special attack in which the user jumps forward and slashes in an x motion with both axes. Other than its overall stunning lightning ability, it just looks cool with it being two-handed axes and all. How much more Viking can you get?
4. Scourging Slayer Two-Handed Sword
The Slayer is a two-handed sword that also comes in three different variations, though the specific one this is referencing is the blue lightning sword. Scourging is unique in that its slash is lowered but the special ability of lightning evens it out to equal the original Slayer sword. In addition to this, the lightning element can pass from one enemy to the next, with a 20% chance of hitting.
3. Root Ripper Crossbow
Amongst the new weapons of the game have also come new variations of the weapons. Though the crossbow in Valheim is not a new item, the Root Ripper Crossbow with its charred bolts is. If that’s not good enough, the Root Ripper, similar to other items originating from the swamps, deals 10 poison damage. It also has a 20% chance of causing immobilization.
Don’t forget that almost all good in Valheim comes at a cost, this one being your jump height and length are affected -100%.
2. Trollstav
While the Trollstav can be controversial amongst the Valheim community, it has its efficiencies nonetheless. When used, a giant troll skeleton that’s on fire is summoned to attack the hoards around you. User beware though, your friend might not be so friendly after all. In other words, the troll skeleton you summoned to help you can and will attack you in your time of need.
Ashlands Update Weapon #1. Drynwyn
Sword on fire, need we say any more? This sword turns a Viking into a Viking Warrior, with its constantly lit flame, stunning mechanics, and overall representation of the challenge that is Ashlands. Farming for the Drynwyn is a struggle in itself as you travel to several biomes and defeat a new mini-boss all to retrieve tip fragments to build the sword.
If you thought that it couldn’t get any better or more difficult than what you’ve already witnessed in Valheim, buckle up for a bumpy ride. The Ashlands comes with its own unique set of challenges, such as acquiring the elusive Drynwyn or fighting flaming, charred skeletons. However you play, Ashlands has proven to keep the game going for many fans while also eliciting excitement for Valheim all over again.
