Back from the Dead: 7 Days to Die Resurrected For A Full Release

The Fun Pimps, against all odds, has resurrected 7 Days to Die. This game, once on the verge of oblivion, has been brought back to life, much like Frankenstein’s monster, after enduring decades of setbacks, financial troubles, and waning support.

Look at what’s in store for the 7 Days to Die full release in June 2024.

About 7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die, a game by The Fun Pimps, has had a bumpy journey, but it’s shaping up for a promising… start. It’s a little late since the firing pin has since been fired.

7DD is an open-world zombie survival game. It grants players the freedom to craft their own maps, from modest settings to vast landscapes. The game’s procedural generation feature adds a layer of challenge, creating diverse environments from lakes and rivers to cities and biomes. This unique twist ensures that each playthrough is a thrilling and unique experience as you battle hordes of zombies and brace for the 7th day.

The whole point of 7 Days to Die is a blood moon every seven days (a blood moon that scales with your player skill level in-game; more on that in a bit). On the night of a blood moon, you must survive a constant wave of zombies until daybreak. As it scales with the player’s skill level, as you live longer and gather better equipment, the level in the game scales up. That ups not only the loot in your area but also the blood moon nights, allowing more zombies to show up along with more variants.

As you explore the world, you can find Points of Interest to find higher tier weapons, parts for weapons, and even vehicles so you can explore the world in style and make a few zombies permanent road bumps. From my memories, there was no such thing as vendors. However, they have added vendors and a way to use the coin currency in the game. The traders gave a good life to the world, allowing the players to get weapons, tiers, and extra gear.

7 Days to Die 1.0 update

The full release of 7 Days to Die will include new features and overhaul features. 1.0 will come with new character customization, models, and animations. The armor system will be updated to include clothing mods for armor pieces. There will be several new tiers for the armor sets: Primitive, Light, Medium, and Heavy. There are complete set bonuses and single bonuses.

1.0 will also introduce an overhaul of NPCs. The zombie varieties will have new clothes and colors. Zombies will also gain a gore and dismemberment system, and animals will have new animations, models, and shaders for their fur. The update will also bring in new points of interest, better world generation, a new UI, reduced memory usage, and faster world generation.

As a TL;DR: They will be updating the game moving forward into the following year, giving a weather system and biome overhaul, cross play, and random generation for consoles, adding more NPC updates with new systems added going forward.

Opinions On the Hoard Game

For my opinion on 7DD, I have always enjoyed it, and I loved being able to shoot and kill zombies while trying to survive for weapon parts and vehicle parts. It was a video game where I could constantly enjoy making a new world and starting over just to get new experiences.

My only issue with the game was when going to large areas, and sometimes not even the cities, the optimization would drop. There would be lagging, some but very rarely crashing, things spawning in late despite having a good enough rig for it. But I couldn’t ask for a better zombie game. It was always saddening to see 7DD not improving or even not going anywhere in the past, so hearing this 1.0 was music to my ears.

Now, there is sad and good news; the good news is they will be re-releasing 7 Days to Die on consoles, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. The bad news is despite having a “legacy” edition, you will have to pay for it again. Fortunately, The Fun Pimps is working with Sony and Microsoft to get legacy owners a discount! At release, the price will go up to $44.99 on all platforms. PC players will be able to keep their regular edition as it will be able to be upgraded to the newer release.

They have released a roadmap for what is to come, linked above as a picture to show their plan. Hopefully, it won’t be another decade or so before another update.
