We’re willing to bet you’ve never heard of Minecraft Earth (apologies if you have!). The point, though, we’re making is that this blink-and-you’ll-miss spin-off of the very successful and infamous pixelated sandbox game Minecraft sought to tackle the AR market with gusto, even going head-on with Pokemon GO, to great fame. Alas, though, we never saw the spin-off take hold, and some begged the question — why?
A lot of reasons, actually. But those reasons shouldn’t matter in this market of AR gaming. These are the reasons that should:
3 Reasons Why Mojang Might Make Some Major Moolah With a Minecraft Earth Relaunch
Here’s the thing — Mojang’s at a prime spot where they can make a go of it with Minecraft Earth once again. Especially in this day and age of Palworld taking computers, labtops and even digital handhelds by storm, it might not hurt to throw a hat in the ring one more time — make this a triple-threat match of pixelated passion.
But we first have to understand what got in the way of Mojang’s journey in the first place, starting with….
Reason #1: The Pandemic Got in the Way of Minecraft Earth
Mojang wasn’t well equipped for that. The moment they were at the cusp of releasing Minecraft Earth, the stupid COVID-19 hit, and everything went on lockdown. Pokemon GO, however, had all the tools to survive with ways to play indoors. But Mojang? Not so much.
It was a sad moment in an announcement for an augmented-reality title in 2019 that would allow players to harvest resources and build all sorts of structures in your own backyard or the local grocery store, only to have to shelve it just as quickly. As a result, the early access period was all us players got!
Reason #2: Minecraft Earth Stirred Up Plenty of Interest on YouTube
In particular, YouTube sensations Grian and Mumbo Jumbo had already started crafting their agendas with the promotions of said title. They were all in. In fact, many players had gravitated toward this exciting new release by Mojang only to be disturbingly disappointed at how quickly Minecraft Earth was cradled.
Even as the other spin-offs Mojang tried fell a bit flat — Minecraft Legends and Minecraft Dungeons didn’t get much focus — the main brand itself still went strong, which said a lot about a concept that was going the AR route. And many were already onboard with YouTube sensations in tow.
Reason #3: And How Many Were Onboard? More Than a Million! And Yet….
Minecraft Earth failed? Come on! The brand is that close to its 15th year anniversary, and even after a solid 1.4MM downloads in the first week alone, Mojang couldn’t get this new spin-off moving in the right direction?
Through no fault of their own, mind you. As we’ve said…. Pandemic *coughs*.
This, However, Is Why These 3 Reasons Should Move Mojang in the Right Direction:
Just give it another shot. What do you have to lose?? Pixels? You’ve got more pixels than you know what to do with.
Given COVID has died down some, and many aren’t walking around wearing masks these days, it should be pretty clear that Minecrafters near and far should be having fun with the AR market. Statistics show that Minecraft’s even more popular than it was in 2019.
So let’s get to it. Let’s see a relaunch of this spin-off. We’re willing to bet you’re sitting on a goldmine here (speaking to Mojang)…. And not some lava spill.
