Every Mindblowing Resident Evil Game Through 2024

Resident Evil is known to many as the best survival horror franchise for a variety of reasons. However, it’s mostly because the games are consistently amazing! We were introduced to this world back in 1996, and since then, it’s grown to be a massive franchise!

To put it into perspective for you, there are over 24 console games, 6 films, a Netflix series, novels, and even comics. I was honestly bummed to hear that the Netflix series won’t be getting a season 2 because I really enjoyed the first one!

I understand that diving into the franchise can be overwhelming but don’t worry, I’m here to help! I’m going to explore all RE games by sharing a brief description along with how the games changed the industry.

Every Mindblowing Resident Evil Game in Order

ResidentEvil

Resident Evil (1996)

The first game introduced players to the alarming world involving the Umbrella Corporation and its experiments. You can play as either of the two main characters, Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Both are members of an elite team called S.T.A.R.S. In the game, you explore the mysterious Spencer Mansion.

The gameplay involved limited ammunition, puzzles, and a fixed camera perspective, all causing you to feel on edge. It’s safe to say that this title laid the groundwork for numerous horror titles.

Resident Evil 2 (1998)

The second game expanded the world that we saw in the first game. In this game, we were introduced to two new protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. The main goal in RE 2 was to navigate the zombie-infested Raccoon City.

The game has enhanced graphics and more polished gameplay mechanics in comparison to the first game. The dual-scenario system was loved by many because it allowed you to experience two intertwined storylines.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999)

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis continues the storyline of the second game. However, in this game, we focus on Jill Valentine’s escape from Raccoon City. The game introduces Nemesis, a bio-weapon that goes after Jill throughout the game. One notable change in this RE game was the addition of a dodge mechanic.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica (2000)

Resident Evil Code: Veronica is a notable game in the series because we saw some big changes! This was the first RE game to introduce 3D environments which was a big upgrade from the pre-rendered backgrounds of previous games.

The story follows Claire Redfield as she searches for her brother Chris. Enhanced gameplay mechanics such as dual-wielding and dynamic camera angles are additional improvements.

Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Resident Evil 4 is said to have revolutionized the series due to the change in gameplay and camera perspective. The game follows Leon S. Kennedy, from the second game, on a mission to rescue the President’s daughter from a mysterious cult.

The over-the-shoulder camera view and more action-oriented gameplay were a large change from the traditional survival horror mechanics. Critically acclaimed for its design, atmosphere, and storyline, this title was a massive success.

Resident Evil 5 (2009)

Resident Evil 5 introduced co-op gameplay mechanics, allowing you to experience the game with a friend. Players played as Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva Alomar. Set in Africa, the game advanced the series’ storyline and featured more action gameplay.

Resident Evil 6 (2012)

Resident Evil 6 aimed to blend multiple gameplay styles by featuring interconnected storylines with various characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and a new character named Jake Muller. The attempt to cater to different gameplay preferences did result in mixed reviews, but despite that the game did well.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard marked a return to the series’ survival horror roots. Shifting to a first-person perspective, this title introduces a new protagonist, Ethan Winters, as he searches for his missing wife in a deteriorated plantation.

Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019)

This remake is a wonderful recreation of the original game with modern graphics and gameplay improvements. The storytelling and character development are better in this version, bringing new depth to the classic. Both new players and returning fans praised the remake for its balance of both nostalgia and innovation.

Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020)

This remake brought the 1999 classic to new audiences with better graphics and updated gameplay mechanics. It was praised for its intense action sequences and accurate reinterpretation of iconic moments.

Resident Evil Village (2021)

Resident Evil Village continued the story of Ethan Winters. This game seamlessly integrates horror and action elements, offering an incredibly immersive experience.

Village received critical and commercial success and was praised for its atmospheric environments, engaging storyline, and innovative gameplay mechanics.

Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023)

This remake features better graphics and refined gameplay with the aim of capturing the essence of the original while also appealing to new players. The reception was overwhelmingly positive, with fans and critics appreciating the respectful enhancements and attention to detail.
