The Minecraft 1.20 update brought exciting new content to the game, including new biomes, structures, and mobs. Among these new additions is the armadillo, however, they’re not just an adorable new mob; they also drop a valuable item known as armadillo scutes.
These scutes are essential for crafting and repairing wolf armor, making them a sought-after resource for players looking to improve their pets’ gear. In this article, I’m going to go over everything you need to know on how to get Armadillo scute in Minecraft 1.20.
What is an Armadillo Scute?
Scutes are the protective plates that armadillos shed. These are primarily used to craft and repair wolf armor in the game. Wolf armor provides durability and protection for wolves, making them a critical resource for players looking to protect their pets.
I hate losing pets in games so when I heard that wolf armor was being added to Minecraft, I was very excited! Scutes can be used to repair wolf armor as well so you can make sure that the armor stays in top condition and that don’t have to make more.
To repair wolf armor all you need to do is hold the scutes in your hand and right-click on the wolf while it’s wearing the armor. You’ll know the armor is back up to full durability when you right-click with a scute and it changes the dog’s position instead of repairing the armor.
Where to Find Minecraft Armadillos
Armadillos in Minecraft 1.20 primarily spawn in savanna and badland biomes. To increase your chances of finding armadillos in the game, explore these biomes during the day. They’re more active and visible during the day, making them easier to spot and approach them.
Tips for Locating Armadillos in Game
- Cover as much ground as possible in savanna and badland biomes.
- Armadillos are often found near acacia trees in Savanna biomes.
- Armadillos can blend into the environment well, so keep an eye out for movement.
How to Obtain Armadillo Scutes
There are two different ways you can get armadillo scutes in Minecraft, the first way is to wait. Armadillos will naturally shed one scute every five to ten minutes. However, if you don’t want to wait, you can also use a new tool called the brush. The brush is a tool that was introduced along with the Armadillo in Minecraft 1.20, it was designed specifically for collecting resources like armadillo scutes.
By brushing an armadillo, you trigger the drop of a scute, although I would like to mention that one use of the brush to get a scute uses up a good amount of durability. You can expect to get about four scutes before the brush breaks. This means if you’re looking to stock up you’ll need multiple brushes.
Step-by-Step Guide on Using the Brush
- Gather the Proper Materials: You’ll need sticks and feathers to craft the brush.
- Open the Crafting Table: Arrange the materials in the crafting table. Place a stick in the center square and feathers in adjacent ones.
- Craft the Brush: Once arranged correctly, craft the brush and add it to your inventory.
- Find an Armadillo: Locate a Minecraft armadillo in savanna biomes.
- Equip the Brush: Select the brush from your inventory.
- Use the Brush on an Armadillo: Approach the armadillo slowly, crouched, and right-click to brush the armadillo.
