Fishing is a big part of Palia, there is a wide variety of fish to catch from the common Gillyfin to the epic Flametongue Ray. Fishing is a skill you acquire pretty early on in the game so mastering the mechanics of fishing is key to becoming an expert angler. In this Palia fishing guide, I’m going to go over everything you need to know about fishing in the game from master fishing to maximizing efficiency, and even how to level up.
Palia Fishing Guide: How to Master Fishing
Mastering the art of fishing in Palia is essential for collecting all fish. While collecting all Palia fish is time-consuming it’s not as difficult as finding the fish stew recipe is! It may seem like it would be straightforward but fishing in Palia is not as easy as other games, which is why I made this Palia fishing guide!
Before you start fishing, you need to find the right spot. Palia has a variety of areas to fish in and some areas have unique fish species. By researching different Palia fish and their locations you can increase your chances of catching the fish you’re looking for.
How to Fish in Palia
- Hold down the primary action button, left-click on PC and A on Nintendo Switch, to set the distance of your cast. When the circle reaches your target, let go of the primary action button.
- Allow the fish to nibble on the line before hooking, you want to wait for a big bite! When you see a big splash, hook the fish by pressing and holding your primary action button.
- When the green parentheses appear, hold down the primary action button to reel in. Be sure you’re keeping the fish within the green parentheses.
- Fish try to escape when not within the green markers so make sure you’re not reeling while the fish is outside of it. This damages your fishing rod.
- Move your mouse, or the left joystick if playing on Nintendo Switch, to the left and right to keep the green marker over the fish if it tries to escape. When the fish is outside of the parentheses, they will turn red. Do not reel in when this happens!
- If the fish is outside of the green makers, release the primary action button to stop reeling and try to recenter on the fish.
- Release the primary action button to pull the fish out of the water when it reaches you.
Palia Fishing Guide: How to Maximize Efficiency
In Palia, bait is a tool used for attracting specific Palia fish species and increasing your chances of catching said fish. You can choose between regular bait and glow worm bait. I recommend experimenting with the two, and seeing what you can catch!
This may seem obvious, but managing inventory space is huge for fishing, that’s why I included it in this Palia fishing guide. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve gone fishing in the game and forgot to empty my inventory. This caused me to waste time running back to my house to either sell or out away certain items.
I find it best to clear out my inventory of all items I don’t need for fishing, which includes tools like the pickaxe and bow, so I can have as much inventory space as possible. You’d be surprised at how fast it fills up!
Palia Fishing Guide: Leveling Up
Leveling up fishing is so important because it opens up new opportunities in the game. As you progress, you’ll gain access to better equipment like rods, attachments, and bobbers. Also, each level awards players renown, which is another currency in the game that can be used at the Dragon Shrine to increase their total Focus. You can earn experience in a couple of different ways. The first is fishing-related quests and the second is simply going to different fishing spots and catching different fish.
