When Alan Wake II launched in October of last year, it was said that it would get two pieces of DLC, one known as Night Springs and the other known as The Lake House. The Night Springs expansion DLC was recently released on June 8th and while there isn’t a release date yet for The Lake House DLC, it’s still rumored to be coming out in late 2024.
Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake also announced that Alan Wake II would be getting two physical editions of the game which should please players who have been wanting a non-digital version of the game.
Night Springs DLC
The first piece of Alan Wake II’s expansion DLC launched on June 8th and I absolutely loved it! If the Night Springs logo looks similar to that of The Twilight Zone that’s completely intentional, as Night Springs is meant to be Alan Wake’s version of The Twilight Zone.
The expansion doesn’t let you play as the titular series main character but instead, has three-hour-long scenarios where you play two side characters and another character from a different Remedy game. While the DLC doesn’t advance too much of the plot post-Alan Wake II, I thought it was overall pretty fun.
Alan Wake II Deluxe Edition
Besides the release of the DLC, it was also announced that Alan Wake II would also be getting two different physical editions with each one launching at a different time at the end of the year. The first one is the deluxe edition which seems identical to the digital deluxe edition I own over on the Epic Games Store.
The physical deluxe edition comes with the expansion pass, which includes the story content Night Springs and the upcoming The Lake House Expansions. It also comes with a lantern charm for Saga’s bracelet, two weapon skins for Alan and Saga’s weapons, and two costumes for the two protagonists.
Personally, I’m a pretty big fan of Saga’s crimson windbreaker outfit, I feel like it matches her outfit more than the FBI jacket she wears in the game. The Physical Deluxe Edition will be released on October 22nd of this year.
Alan Wake II Collector’s Edition
The second physical version of the game will be the Collector’s Edition which is planned to launch in December. The Collector’s Edition comes with a smorgasbord of goodies including a slipcover for the game, the angel lamp used in the game, an art book, a keychain from the Oceanview Hotel, and some enamel pins. If it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t own an X-Box Series X/S or a PlayStation 5, I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat.
Luckily, those who aren’t able to get the Collector’s Edition won’t be missing out on any in-game content. Speaking personally here, I think it’s pretty disgusting when a Collector’s Edition hides in-game content behind its price tag.
