The time is nigh for some exciting Dragon Quest remakes to be released into the world. That was part of the recent Nintendo Direct event, which may have been a surprise to many. After PlayStation, Xbox, and indie developers had their time to shine, Nintendo took the reins with a series of big announcements. The reveal related to Dragon Quest is one that caught my interest the most as someone who never really got into the series. Soon, it’ll be the perfect chance to dive right into them.
All About the Dragon Quest Remakes
The announcement for Dragon Quest III HD-RD Remake was first announced back in 2021 with a short trailer from Square Enix. In that trailer, we got to see a bit of the game in a beautiful style that portrays amazing and artistic scenes that players will be able to explore. During Nintendo Direct, we were able to see even more of the new and improved art style. For veteran players of the series, the game may even feel like discovering the story for the first time.
You probably noticed that I said Dragon Quest remakes in the title of this article instead of just mentioning only the Dragon Quest III remake. That is because, in a surprising move, Nintendo also announced that the first two Dragon Quest games are getting the same treatment as the third. Players will be able to experience the entire Erdrick trilogy in this amazing style, which may very well draw in a new generation of people who’d like to experience the series from the very beginning.
When to Expect the Games
What wasn’t announced in the original reveal for the HD-RD Remake version of Dragon Quest III was a reveal date. Thankfully, Nintendo rectified this by giving us the official date of November 14. That means players only have a bit less than five months to get their hands on the game. It also means that you’ll be able to get a copy for that avid Dragon Quest fan in your life when the holidays come around. That’s only if they don’t buy it on day one. You might just have to spoil the surprise for them.
The other two Dragon Quest remakes will be released in 2025, which may seem odd to some. That is because Dragon Quest III is actually a prequel. In fact, Dragon Quest creator and game designer, Yuji Horii, recommends playing the third game before the others. He said so at the end of the Dragon Quest segment during Nintendo Direct. This allows players to experience the Erdrick trilogy in chronological order before they move on to the later games. It seems like that’ll be my plan when the HD-2D remakes arrive.
