The original Sega Genesis Mini offered 42 original games emulated by M2 and upgraded the console to play with USB Genesis controllers with a control pad and 3 action buttons. The Genesis Mini is modeled after the original to give fans and console collectors a sense of nostalgia for the early 90s. Now with an HDMI cable, players can play classic Genesis games on modern televisions. In Japan, the Mega Drive came with a Mega CD Drive attachment to play Sega 32X and Sega CD games.
The Sega Genesis Mini 2 is modeled after the Genesis Core System. Not only does the console include 60 Genesis games. The system also offers Sega CD games, arcade titles, and exclusive games region-locked in Japan. The controllers are modeled after the Genesis Core System’s round compact design and 6 buttons. The Sega Genesis Mini 2 can also be played with a Sega Genesis Mini controller.

The original Sega Genesis Mini had a lovely jingle with a sleek UI design and included three customizable wallpapers that matched Sonic’s blue fur. The Sega Genesis Mini 2’s UI is more rounded and doesn’t have the same excitement. The Japanese version has a colorful wallpaper that will remind players of Sonic Mania with an upbeat jingle.
Switching between the HD and CRTV is jarring. The CRTV mode is clearer than its predecessor. Processing power is pretty good as well. The Sega Genesis Mini 2 handles the arcade games and the Sega CD games very well. The controller takes some time to get used to due to its awkward round handles. Overall, the system runs fantastically.

If you live in Canada and Japan, you will need a separate registration link. Japan’s version comes with the Genesis Core System comes with its Mega CD Drive for nostalgic Japanese Genesis fans. However, at this time it is currently unavailable.
