Capcom’s Koshi Nakanishi Confirms Next Resident Evil Development

Capcom made Resident Evil fans very happy on July 1st during the Capcom 2024 showcase. They announced that they have a new chapter in the works, meaning a Resident Evil 9 could be on the way. This announcement also tells us that it is being directed by Koshi Nakanishi. These evil games are nothing new to director Nakanishi, who was one of the masterminds behind Resident Evil 5‘s design. He could also add to his resume that he directed: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, and Number 7: Biohazard.

Now that Nakanishi has announced that he will be responsible for bringing the next chapter of Resident Evil, fans have a lot to cheer about. This also means a lot of pressure on his shoulders, as Resident Evil is a huge hit, and living up to the expectation of making a good thing great means a lot of work. Koshi Nakanishi talked about this when he said, “We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil] 7.”

Resident Evil is a horror game series that has also been made into a media franchise created by Capcom. It is a third-person shooter survival game set in a post-apocalyptic city. In this city area, you will run into Ma and Pa Shmo, who, like everyone else, are now zombified. Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara created Resident Evil for the PlayStation, which was released back in 1996. Since that time, we have been rubbing shoulders with Zombies or worse things with: Biohazard, Village, and also four remakes of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.

As of December last year, Resident Evil was Capcom’s best-selling franchise horror game series, selling over 154 million copies. Its success in gaming has spurned on a movie and five sequels. Its total franchise worth has made it the third highest-grossing video game and film series. Since its last series installment, Resident Evil is looking to change things up with a few rumors swirling around its next installment. The next game is looking to be an open-world layout. We should look forward to seeing it sometime late next year.

Isn’t This The Picture Of Fun?

There is no shortage of cheap thrills that make the game feel more like a movie on a tight budget. A lot of the things players run into won’t make sense, but it’s the end of the world, so that doesn’t matter. It’s fun. The characters that run around with you keep the goofiness going as they make passes at each other while the horror and grossness keep coming at you. With the outfits they wear, you have a combination that shouldn’t work, but it does.

Even more horror action is coming, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be a walk in the park. There will surely be a lot of moving, shooting, risque outfits, failed pickup lines, and horror around every corner. There are also to be humorous moments thrown in with their top characters, with giants after you, and horrifying moments where you will have to dodge lasers and solve puzzles. You must also do some sick melee moves and tight shots to escape the nasties.

Resident Evil is one of the longest-running horror franchises out there. With a new game coming soon, it doesn’t seem like an end is in sight. That’s great news for fans of the franchise and those who enjoy being scared while they clutch a controller.
