Didn’t it feel that TravelerTales LEGO Games ruled the market for most of the time, as the publisher jumped on a variety of IPs such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings, and Disney, all of which found themselves undergoing the influx of the LEGO treatment? The general public and audiences realize it’s all consumer-based. Still, Funko Pops has been doing the same for a while, and it feels the margin of competition from products is reaching new heights.
Get ready for a game-changer! The renowned collectible bobblehead company Funko is about to revolutionize the video game realm with its original concept, Funko Fusion. This innovative game, set to launch on all consoles this year on September 13th, promises a gaming experience like no other. Here’s everything we know about the game based on the all-encompassing collectible toy brand!
Here’s What We Know About Funko Fusion

The first official trailer (found here) for the game debuted earlier this spring, on April 30th. It included various details, such as a simple bite-size sample of the gameplay that will unfold and some characters that players can choose to use when diving in. From first impressions, the trailer showed familiar franchises, such as a boss fight with the T-Rex from Jurassic Park, and environments from films like Jaws, Back to the Future, and John Carpenter’s The Thing, which are just some of the properties going to be featured. A few characters who took the spotlight in the trailer were a classic He-Man variant with the purple costume and bowl cut and even Vanya from Netfilx’s The Umbrella Academy.
One thing I find pretty clever is that when characters appear after the player selects them, they are removed from their Funko packaging, which is entirely identical to their real-life counterpart. The title is being developed by 10:10 Games, which confirmed that properties such as Back to the Future, Battlestar Galactica, Child’s Play 2, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Hot Fuzz, Invincible, Megan, The Mummy, Nope, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Shaun of the Dead, Voltron, and Xena Warrior Princess will all be featured in the game, meaning that they could be locations, characters, hubs, or levels.
Is That Blood?

One thing distinguishing this game from the LEGO titles is the inclusion of actual blood, which looks like strawberry jelly, which is a clever way of keeping the title still suitable for mostly all ages, with the intent of the subtle graphic nature reminds me that the developer wants to find the balance between a T – for teen rating. And it makes sense as the footage does show characters being murdered and decapitated by a variety of weapons. Even though the damage is relatively small, I enjoy knowing that the gaming industry is starting to take on a more mature lens and approach.
The gameplay will be better for it, especially with knowing titles such as Invincible or Nope will have a role in the game, as both are bloody and gruesome at times. That will be enough to warrant a higher age rating. Still, I’m interested in seeing how the actual gameplay will feel in the hands of the player. Will the levels be open-world, like hubs where you can expect to find and track down collectibles or follow the story?
Hopefully, all answers will be revealed sooner than we realize. That said, I’m genuinely excited to sit down and jump into Funko Fusion as it looks to be a game changer for what many once considered a stale extension of a timeless franchise in the oversaturation of the Lego gaming landscape. Funko Fusion is slated for an official release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this fall on September 13th.
