Lilith is one of the four playable characters in the first Borderlands game. She gets one of the coolest sets of dazzling powers and abilities that make her a deadly force to be reckoned with. Being one of the original quartet of players that could be chosen from, Lilith is an iconic character who helped bring an explosive element to the team of Vault Hunters, as well as functioning as a secondary character in later games. In this article, we will learn more about her background along with how she handles during gameplay.
Lilith Of Borderlands
Part of what makes the Borderlands series great is its diverse set of characters. Lilith is one of four playable characters in the first game. She is one of the Sirens, a group of women with extraordinary powers. These women are sometimes referred to as witches due to their magic-like abilities. Lilith attributes her powers to crossing the “Hotness Threshold”, stating “Any woman as good-looking as me can do what I do.” Other Sirens like her offer similar explanations about their powers. She is cocky and brash, yet is a private person who has trouble letting her guard or showing any kind of weakness.
Lilith is considered the overall main protagonist of the looter-shooter series. She’s first introduced in the debut game. She is part of the group of Vault Hunters fighting their way across Pandora in search of great loot. She returns as a supporting character in the second game, operating out of Sanctuary with her love interest, Roland. She also develops a ‘cult’ following when bandits start worshipping her while operating as the Firehawk. In the sequel, Lilith tasks the player with rescuing Roland and helping keep Sanctuary safe. Her fiery nature and ultra-cool demeanor make her a layered and exciting character in Borderlands’ overarching narrative. She is voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard.
These Boots Were Made for Phasewalking
The Siren class excels at close combat in conjunction with elemental damage. Submachine guns and shotguns are her go-to firearms in addition to her amazing set of powers. Phasewalk is her Action Skill, which lets her turn invisible, increase her movement speed, and send out a powerful shockwave blast. Entering Phasewalk also renders her invulnerable to damage while the effect lasts, making getting in and out of combat much easier. This can be used to sneak up on a group of enemies and go for a critical attack on their leader, or to quietly slip away during an overwhelming encounter.
Lilith excels as a close-range hit-and-run combatant. Her Phasewalk ability, in conjunction with her higher movement speed and various elemental damage, make her ideal for creating chaos among enemies. When combined with a tank character like Brick, she can sow discord among enemy ranks and whittle them down while the Berserker draws aggro. Likewise, when paired with Mordecai, she can keep the enemies occupied and vulnerable while Mordecai snipes them from a distance. No matter who you’re playing with, Lilith is a great compliment to the team as well as an explosive powerhouse of a character.
An Iconic Vault Hunter
Lilith is a beloved character that many Borderlands fans revere greatly. With the film adaptation releasing on August 9th, 2024, fans are eagerly waiting to see if Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett can nail the role. Things look promising from the trailer, with Blanchett showcasing Lilith’s sharp wit, awesome power, and distinct style. Along with an all-star cast that includes Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, and more, Blanchett has the task of paying homage to the game character while making the role her own. It will also be interesting to see how the movie handles the dynamics between characters, specifically her and Roland.
Borderlands is one of the best action RPGs out there, and Lilith has become the face of the series with her layered characterization and fantastic powers. As the main character of the series, her importance and legacy cannot be ignored. In gameplay, she is an absolute beast that makes a welcome addition to any party of Vault Hunters. In the right hands, and with the right perks, she can be an unstoppable force on the battlefield. With Lilith’s fate currently unknown at the end of the third game, only time will tell if we will see her again in future releases. She’s been with us from the beginning, so we hope that the Firehawk is still out there somewhere.
