Of Dust and Light – A Surreal, Intriguing Puzzle Game
Of Dust and Light is an upcoming isometric adventure game (release date TBD) that focuses on atmosphere and emotion. It will center around Sparrow, who gets thrust into a surreal world where she must face her past in order to move forward with her future. It appears to be a game that will deliver a heavily emotional experience.
About Of Dust and Light
Developed by Binary Fantasies, who are also developing the currently-frozen project Space Within, Of Dust and Light is, according to the official website, “inspired by Death’s Door, Tunic, and Gravity Falls.” The lead character, Sparrow, must solve puzzles, fight enemies, and aid creatures as she journeys through a strange world. The website describes the game as such:
“Uncover a forgotten world where memory and magic intertwine. Of Dust and Light is a story-driven action adventure about loss, renewal, and the fragile beauty that persists even after ruin. Play as Sparrow, a fallen warrior who awakens in a realm of fading gods and fractured light, seeking the remnants of her past and the strength to rise again.”
The Of Dust and Light Steam Page
The game’s Steam page discusses the gameplay in more detail. It says that you will “journey through bioluminescent forests, shattered temple-cities, and twilight ruins” and “wield blades, bows, and magic to face corrupted creatures and twisted remnants of once-noble guardians.” I wonder, is it possible to bring the guardians back to sanity? If not, will you have to deal with the aftermath of slaughtering “once-noble guardians”?
The Steam page also says this about the battles: “Battle is fast and deliberate—light and heavy attacks, dodges, and spells combine into elegant combat puzzles. Magic deals devastating damage to the Hollow Queen’s minions, while raw strength best breaks through the corrupted Veil. Choose between powers that let you blind enemies or send birds to shatter cursed barriers, shaping your journey with each ability.”
So, When is the Game Coming Out?
The game currently has no trailer and no release date. However, it can be wishlisted on Steam now. If it looks interesting to you, I recommend wishlisting it, which lets the developers know that yes, people want the game. I will definitely be wishlisting it myself. A painterly isometric game with Legend of Zelda-style gameplay and an emotional story powering it? Yes, please!
