S-Tier
The undisputed masters of the paranormal. These Pokémon possess incredible power, unique utility, and game-changing Mega Evolutions that place them at the apex of the Ghost-type hierarchy.
- Mega Gengar: A legendary special sweeper. Mega Gengar boasts an incredible Special Attack stat and blistering Speed. It can outpace and obliterate a huge portion of the roster with moves like Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb, making it a terrifying offensive threat.
- Mega Chandelure: The new Mega Evolution for Chandelure pushes its already massive Special Attack into astronomical territory. It becomes a devastating wall-breaker, capable of melting even the most resilient opponents with its powerful Fire and Ghost-type STAB moves.
- Aegislash: A tactical mastermind. Aegislash’s Stance Change ability allows it to pivot between a hyper-offensive Blade Forme and an incredibly bulky Shield Forme. This unparalleled versatility lets it adapt to any situation, making it one of the most unpredictable and powerful Pokémon in the game.
- Mega Froslass & Mega Banette: These Megas transform their base forms into specialized powerhouses. Mega Froslass becomes a speedy special attacker with a great Ice/Ghost typing, perfect for revenge killing. Mega Banette gains a colossal Attack stat, making it one of the strongest physical Ghost-types available.
A-Tier
A-Tier Pokémon are exceptional combatants that can easily anchor a successful team. They are powerful and reliable, falling just short of the sheer dominance of the S-Tier.
- Gengar & Chandelure: Even without their Mega forms, these two are elite special attackers. Gengar’s high Speed and Special Attack make it a constant threat, while Chandelure’s base Special Attack is one of the highest among non-legendary Pokémon.
- Froslass: A fast and disruptive Pokémon with a unique Ice/Ghost typing. It can out-speed many opponents, setting up hazards or inflicting status conditions before dealing solid damage.
- Doublade: While not fully evolved, Doublade’s great Steel/Ghost typing and high defensive stats make it an incredible physical wall when holding an Eviolite, which boosts the defenses of unevolved Pokémon. It often proves bulkier than its final evolution, Aegislash.
B-Tier
These Pokémon are solid and dependable choices that perform their roles well. They may have more noticeable flaws or be more specialized than the tiers above but are more than capable in battle.
- Banette: A decent physical attacker that truly comes alive with its Mega Evolution. In its base form, it’s a bit slow but can hit hard if given the opportunity.
- Trevenant & Gourgeist: This pair of Grass/Ghost-types offers unique utility. Trevenant is a solid physical attacker with good recovery options. Gourgeist’s stats change with its size, allowing it to function as either a bulky wall or a more offensive threat.
- Mega Sableye: Upon Mega Evolving, Sableye becomes incredibly bulky. However, it is very passive and lacks offensive pressure, making it a niche defensive pivot that can be worn down over time.
C-Tier
This tier includes Pokémon that are either situational or simply outclassed by stronger options. Many are middle-stage evolutions that have yet to reach their peak.
- Sableye: Without its Mega Evolution, Sableye has very low stats. Its main utility comes from its Prankster ability (in traditional games), which gives priority to status moves. Without that, it struggles to make a significant impact.
- Lampent & Haunter: As middle-stage evolutions, they show flashes of the power to come but are too frail and weak to compete against fully evolved Pokémon. They should be evolved as soon as possible.
D-Tier
This tier is composed of first-stage Pokémon that are not viable for serious combat. Their primary value lies in their potential to evolve into the much stronger Pokémon in the higher tiers.
- Gastly, Litwick, Shuppet, Phantump, Honedge, & Pumpkaboo: These are all unevolved Pokémon. They are essential for completing your Pokédex but are far too weak for challenging battles and should be evolved as a priority to unlock their true potential.
