Overwatch 2’s Newest Hero is a DPS Much to Tank Players Chagrin
All the hopes for Tank players for Vendetta have crumbled. Blizzard released the gameplay trailer for the 45th Overwatch 2 hero alongside her abilities and perks. Vendetta becomes the first melee-centric DPS hero in Overwatch 2. Players will get a chance to try out the new hero during her Hero Trial, beginning on November 26th. The trial ends on December 1st.
Overwatch 2 Vendetta Hero Abilities
Palatine Fang – Primary Fire
Hard-light greatsword. Combo swings to end with a destructive overhead slash.
Warding Stance – Secondary Fire
Block with your sword, reducing front damage and deflecting melee attacks. Blocking damage depletes energy.
Ability 1 – Soaring Slice
Hurl your sword in the direction you are facing and then fly to it.
Ability 2 – Whirlwind Dash
Rush forward into a circular slash.
Ability 3 – Projected Edge
Available while Warding Stance is active. Consume energy to fire a wide projectile.
Ultimate – Sundering Blade
Cleave through most defenses, dealing severe damage to enemies in front of you.
Passive – Onslaught
Strike enemies to increase movement and attack speed.
Minor Perk 1 – Siphoning Strike
Overhead strikes gain 30% Lifesteal.
Minor Perk 2 – Relentless
Onslaught can stack three more times, increasing attack speed by 5% and movement speed by 4% per stack.
Major Perk 1 – Swift Vengeance
The last player to land a killing blow on you becomes a target. Eliminate the target to gain 125 overhealth and reset cooldowns.
Major Perk 2 – Raging Storm
Whirlwind Dash continues to spin, hitting three more times for 40 damage in a wide area.
Thoughts on Vendetta
A melee-centric DPS is an aspect that we have never seen in Overwatch 2. Fulfilling that niche is a good direction for Blizzard to take. While it would have been amazing to get another Tank hero, it is understandable why they have taken this direction. Bryan Bedford said the team wanted to focus on “servicing a playstyle that we didn’t have in the roster”. She appears to be a character with a high skill ceiling, so the best players should be able to get maximum value out of her kit.
