Poison-type tier list in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Poison-Type Pokémon Tier List for Pokémon Legends Z-A

Poison-type Pokémon have historically been seen as niche status-inflictors, but in Pokémon Legends Z-A, they have evolved into legitimate powerhouses. With the dominance of Fairy-types in the meta, Poison-types are more valuable than ever as hard counters. Furthermore, the return of Mega Evolutions has gifted several toxic Pokémon with stat boosts that turn them into offensive juggernauts. This tier list ranks the confirmed Poison-type Pokémon from S to D based on their combat potential, stats, and overall utility.

S-Tier

The S-Tier represents the pinnacle of toxic power. These Pokémon possess game-changing Mega Evolutions, incredible base stats, and the versatility to fit onto almost any high-level team.

  • Mega Gengar: A terrifying force on the battlefield. Mega Gengar retains its immense Special Attack and Speed but gains the Shadow Tag ability (in traditional formats, though abilities may vary in Legends context, its stats remain elite). It is a premier special sweeper that can trap and eliminate key threats with Sludge Wave and Shadow Ball.
  • Mega Venusaur: The ultimate tank. With its Thick Fat ability effectively neutralizing its Fire and Ice weaknesses, Mega Venusaur becomes incredibly difficult to break. It can stall opponents with Leech Seed and Toxic or go on the offensive with heavy-hitting Grass and Poison moves.
  • Mega Scolipede: Normally a solid speedster, Scolipede becomes a bulky, hard-hitting physical attacker upon Mega Evolving. It gains significant boosts to Attack and Defense, allowing it to survive hits that would normally crush it, all while dishing out powerful Megahorns and Poison Jabs.
  • Mega Dragalge: A unique Poison/Dragon type that excels as a special tank. Its Mega Evolution amplifies its Special Attack and Special Defense to monstrous levels, allowing it to tank Draco Meteors and retaliate with devastating Adaptability-boosted attacks.
  • Mega Victreebel: This new Mega Evolution transforms Victreebel into a potent mixed attacker. Its offensive stats are boosted significantly, making it a dangerous threat that can hit from both the physical and special sides of the spectrum.

A-Tier

These Pokémon are exceptional combatants that fall just short of the absolute dominance of the S-Tier. They are powerful, reliable, and often essential for covering specific team weaknesses.

  • Gengar & Venusaur: Even without their Mega Stones, these two remain top-tier. Gengar is fast and hits hard, while Venusaur offers great bulk and utility.
  • Mega Beedrill: A quintessential glass cannon. Mega Beedrill has an absurdly high Attack and Speed stat thanks to its Adaptability ability. However, it is incredibly frail; if it doesn’t knock out the opponent in one hit, it often goes down immediately.
  • Roserade: A fantastic special attacker that offers great utility. It can set up Toxic Spikes to poison the opposing team or hit hard with Sludge Bomb and Leaf Storm.
  • Galarian Slowbro & Galarian Slowking: These regional forms bring unique typings and bulk to the table. Galarian Slowbro is a physical tank with a unique signature move, while Galarian Slowking functions as a sturdy special wall with a dangerous movepool.

B-Tier

B-Tier Pokémon are solid choices that can perform well with the right support. They generally have more defined weaknesses or lower stats than the tiers above but are still viable.

  • Victreebel & Beedrill: In their base forms, they are usable but clearly outclassed by their Mega counterparts. Victreebel is a decent mixed attacker, while Beedrill relies heavily on specific setups to be effective.
  • Skrelp (Evolite/Late Evolution): While listed as a base form, Dragalge’s pre-evolution can be surprisingly bulky with Eviolite, though it lacks offensive pressure.
  • Garbodor & Arbok: Both are pure Poison-types with average stats. They can function as defensive pivots or entry hazard setters, but they lack the firepower or extreme bulk to be top-tier threats.

C-Tier

These Pokémon are serviceable for the main story or specific niche strategies but generally struggle in competitive or high-difficulty scenarios.

  • Ariados: It has access to Sticky Web, which is a fantastic utility move, but its abysmal speed and defensive stats make it difficult to use effectively.
  • Weepinbell, Whirlipede, Haunter, & Trubbish: These are middle-stage evolutions. While Haunter has high Special Attack and Speed, it is incredibly fragile. The others are merely stepping stones to their stronger final forms.

D-Tier

This tier consists of unevolved Pokémon that are not viable for serious combat. Their only purpose is to be trained until they evolve.

  • Bulbasaur, Weedle, Kakuna, Bellsprout, Gastly, Spinarak, Venipede, Budew, & Ekans: These early-game Pokémon possess low stats across the board. They should be evolved as quickly as possible to unlock their true potential.
