The Blood of Dawnwalker Director Unfazed at GTA 6 Release
The Blood of Dawnwalker’s director, who also directed The Witcher 3, isn’t worried about releasing the vampire RPG at the same time as GTA 6. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director at Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawn Walker, said, “[GTA 6] is the massive game with massive marketing and so on. And I mean, as a player, I’m fine with it. I will play for sure. As a developer, it’s also fine. We’ll see.”
Many indie game studios delayed their games to make way for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Other indie game studios lamented customers for not giving their games a chance. These studios had the misfortune of releasing their games on the same day as Silksong. Meanwhile, AAA studios are closely looking at GTA 6, due to its immense hype, likening the idea of releasing a AAA game at the same time as GTA 6 to “suicide.”
More Information on The Blood of Dawnwalker
Tomaszkiewicz and Rebel Wolves took inspiration from the Dishonored series. The Blood of Dawnwalker doesn’t go full vampire with its setting and story, as the main character is half-man, half-vampire. The developers intend for this game to have some freedom with the gameplay. The game is scheduled to come out in 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Due to the game’s ambitious nature, the studio currently has over 155 people employed, but The Witcher 3 director aims to keep the studio small, while he continues engaging with all levels of development.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Director on Small Dev Teams
“I don’t want to grow because I’m afraid that we will lose the contact [between management and developers],” Tomaszkiewicz says. “I like how it is right now. I like to work with people every day and create with them, not be somewhere and have layers of management just watching the final effect. I want to work with people. Not be a boss, but a leader.”
Tomaszkiewicz also says people working on the project feel responsible for some parts of the game and feel ownership of it, which he feels is the most important part. He says, “When you set up the goal in a clear way, and you have a reasonable-sized team with whom you can discuss it and agree for some direction, it’s easier to keep this spirit and have people motivated.”
