Expedition 33 Actors Say the JRPG is ‘Sexier’ in French
French and sexy are two adjectives Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actors Ben Starr and Jennifer English use to describe the hit RPG. Ben Starr, the voice of Verso, and Jennifer English, the voice of Maelle, reiterate how sexy the characters were.
During an interview with Future Games Show, the actors explained the game’s story and how they got their respective roles. Most of the questions in the interview were light-hearted, and they shared an amusing story about trying to bust out a wine bottle at a concert event early and being told off by the event staff for the attempt.
Ben Starr said, “I am such a huge turn-based RPG fan, so what excited me most is being a part of something like that. This is inspired by the games that I grew up with. So, it was really cool, and Verso was so sexy.” Starr also voiced Clive Rosfield, the protagonist of Final Fantasy XVI.
Expedition 33’s Sexy Vibes
Jennifer English asked Starr if the game’s characters would be as sexy if they weren’t French. He responded that it’s something that he thinks about all the time, and English asserted that “French people are just sexier,” to which he agrees. English also voiced Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Starr also noted how “sexy” everyone was at the concert. He said, “It was wild and everyone just looked cool.” During the Future Games Show interview, Starr and English also expressed their excitement over Expedition 33 being nominated for 12 categories at The Game Awards. Starr jokingly said that the game would lose to another indie game, titled MEGABONK, but that game dropped out of The Game Awards after being nominated for Debut Indie Game.
Clair Obscur is the Silksong of RPGs
Regarding MEGABONK dropping out of The Game Awards, Starr said, “a game doesn’t need to win awards in order for it to be justifiably excellent, because your relationship with that video game in the context in which you play is the most important thing.”
The Game Awards will be on December 11, and will be free to watch across all major digital, social, and gaming platforms around the world. The annual awards show will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, who is also the show’s executive producer.
