An ARC Raiders Player Has A Shocking Immersive Gaming Experience With Real Law Enforcement
ARC Raiders recently caused a real-world police response thanks to its intense gameplay and a player in a California motel. This player found themselves in a wild situation while engrossed in a raid, when their desperate shouts for a revive were mistaken for cries of real distress. Consequently, a concerned guest alerted the authorities, leading to a late-night welfare check. But how exactly did a video game summon the police?
When Your Grenade Alarms the Neighbors
On Thanksgiving night, the player known online as YoMopho was enjoying a solo session of ARC Raiders. After they scored fantastic loot, their gaming took a dramatic turn when a powerful enemy called a Rocketeer shot them down. They used the game’s proximity chat to yell for help, frantically pleading that they had been shot and needed a revive, in a last-ditch effort to save themselves.
Unfortunately for YoMopho, a nearby player chose to extract rather than help him live. This response led YoMopho to their fate, as this in-game betrayal had an unexpected real-life consequence. How loud were they that they actually worried their motel neighbors? Shortly after their character died, YoMopho heard a pounding on their door and voices shouting, “Police! Open up!” With the officers outside the door, the player would be informed that someone had reported a person being shot in the room.
While the player attempted to use universal gamer language, they insisted that they yelled “FRIENDLY” through the door to de-escalate the situation. Although this tactic is perfectly logical in the world of ARC Raiders, it proved ineffective with the Seaside Police Department. However, the officers noticing the gaming setup and a very much alive, albeit embarrassed, YoMopho, led to a quick resolution.
The Dangers of Playing ARC Raiders
For the gaming community, this awkward situation may lead to future problems with law enforcement. That said, should ARC Raiders include a disclaimer warning players to keep their pleas for help to a dull roar? Besides the cops leaving with a look of disdain, the game’s immersive and dangerously convincing tension is further amplified.
