Genshin Impact collabs with Sony for Genshin PS5 controller

New Genshin Impact Themed Controller Announced

Attention all PS5 owning fans of Genshin Impact! A new piece of merchandise will soon be available for purchase. Sony is releasing a new, limited edition, PS5 DualSense Controller with Genshin Impact themes.  Drop date for Asia is January 21, 2025.  Everyone else will have to wait until February 25, 2025.

Genshin’s Impact

Released in September of 2020, Genshin Impact has had a profound effect on the gaming industry, especially the gacha sector.  While most gacha games up to that point prioritized quantity over quality, releasing a flood of characters monthly, if not weekly, Genshin chose instead to take its time, focus on making each character individualistic, and only released about 2, no more than 3, new characters per 6 weeks.

Owing to its award-wining success, many other companies started developing copycat versions of Genshin Impact, though very few managed to stand the test of time.  Genshin, meanwhile, despite a moderate dip in popularity due to various issues, remains a titan in the game industry, so much so that many companies are still excited to collaborate with it in the hopes that fans will favor them in their patronage.

As many who follow Genshin will know, this isn’t the first time Hoyo has collaborated with Sony.  When the game was first released, there was a special Sword and Glider that could only be used by players who were playing on a PlayStation.

Then, a year later, the first, and only, character collaboration was released, with Aloy, the main character from the Horizon series, becoming a playable character.  This was a contractual collaboration between the two companies.

Hoyo has also collaborated with other franchises, such as KFC, Domino’s, Duolingo, and many others.  Most only offer minor rewards and special deals, though the KFC team-up did provide those who could participate (it was limited to Asia) with a unique Glider.
