Destiny 2: Renegades Fearsome Retainer Walkthrough/Destiny 2 Has Low Number On Star Wars Opening

Destiny 2 Renegades Hits All-Time Low Opening Day Numbers

Destiny 2 is on a downward spiral. After The Final Shape, many players moved on from Bungie’s game. Edge of Fate saw a more significant decline as developer mistakes and failed execution pushed them away. After multiple changes, some hope returned. Renegades became a pivotal point in restoring the numbers. The initial outlook is dim, given that it has the lowest numbers for an expansion release. However, there is more to look at under the hood.

Destiny 2 Renegades Launch Numbers

According to SteamDB, Destiny 2 Renegades peaked at 71,278, which is lower than Episode: Heresy. Heresy had the lowest previous peak at 77,999. The numbers being lower than an Episodic release is cause for concern. Shadowkeep was the lowest expansion release at 214,000.

Renegades Reviews

The reviews for Destiny 2 Renegades have been mixed. Some have loved the Star Wars-inspired expansion, while others detest it. Few reviews see the expansion down the middle. Perhaps the reason for these reviews is the expansion of the Star Wars links. You either love or hate their inclusion. Even some Star Wars fans are not thrilled with how similar the expansion is to the beloved universe. Almost the entirety of Renegades has some links to Star Wars.

The Numbers Lie

The numbers might be at their lowest, but that is not an indication of the expansion’s delivery. Many players have left the game and are not willing to give the expansion a chance. The discontent comes from a failed delivery of Edge of Fate. Perhaps the numbers will increase as the days go by. If the sentiment is overall positive, players might feel incentivised to at least give Renegades a try.

After 48 hours, Renegades appears better than Edge of Fate. The Lawless Frontier and Invasions have gotten players excited. Many have noted the Fire and Ice Exotic Mission as the best in the game’s history. However, the one concern is player retention. With Power not getting reset, how much content will players stay around to play? There is still the Equilibrium Dungeon release, which could revitalize the community. The jury is still out, but there are more signs than just numbers.
