The Colors of Digimon Card Game Explained – Which is the Best for you?
Colors in Digimon have varying levels of relevance in the game. More often than not, it’s the Traits of the card that matter more than the Color. That said, you can still glean some information about a card based on its Color. Though there is no hard and fast rule that says effects can only be limited to one specific set of cards, each Color does have its own archetype, which can help you narrow things down when you’re building a deck.
Red: Charge Forward to Victory
Red cards are almost all about aggression. There is a lot of Deletion, Security Trashing, and increased Security Checks. Decks that focus on Red cards are usually about rushing down your opponent and ending the game as quickly as possible. It’s also the color most often associated with the main protagonist of any given series (Tai, Takuya, Marcus, etc.)
Blue: Let the Currents Drag you Down
These cards focus mostly on Battlefield control, De-Digivolution, and denial. If you want to take away your opponent’s Inherited Effects or return their Digimon to a lower level, Blue is probably where you’ll find the most options. It also has a lot of cards that spawn “Sea” based Digimon.
Yellow: Hope and Despair as One
Buffing and Debuffing, that’s what Yellow cards specialize in. Lots of them increase your Digimon DP or decrease your opponent’s Digimon’s DP. They also have a lot of Security Stack manipulation, either adding to or subtracting from. This color is where you will usually find your angel Digimon.
Green: The Digimon Printing Print
Green cards like to multiply. There is a lot of spawning within this color. It’s also very good at Suspending or Unsuspending cards, both your own and your opponent’s. You’ll also find that Green, appropriately, has a lot of nature/animal-based Digimon.
Purple: Rise Again
Bring out your dead because this is the Trash manipulation color. Sending things to and bringing things back from the Trash is Purple’s bread and butter. Expect all manner of spooky Digimon here.
Black: The Aegis
This color is more defensive. There’s a lot of Block and Rebooting here. As opposed to Red, Black is more than willing to sit back and prolong the game. There is a surprising amount of “dra” Digimon in this color.
White: A Hodgepodge of Power
White has no real identity of its own. It mostly has supportive or conglomeration cards. That being said, it also has several BIG guys (like Omnimon, Apocalymon, and Armageddemon). The only Digimon cards that can be fully White are the Eater cards.
