8 Liyue Characters that Need Buffing in Genshin Impact

Liyue, along with Monstadt, were the first 2 regions released in Genshin. As such, it has several early game characters who are, unfortunately, bad. Since Hoyo has started improving old characters with Faction Buffs, here are a few from Liyue that are in desperate need of some attention.

Assemble, Defenders of Liyue

If we assume that the Liyue Faction Buff will be similar to Mondstadt’s, then 2 characters of the same Faction will need to be in the party to activate. To that end, I think the Faction that hits most of the characters who need Buffs, and is highly relevant to Liyue, is the “Adepti”.

All the characters listed below have some connection, no matter how tangentially to the Adepti. And, to be fair, even in the case where the link is minor, the fact that Razor counts as Hexenrei gives us a little wiggle room.

1. Zhongli

If they were to make a change to Zhongli, the best path would be to cut out his split-scaling. Make him either fully ATK-based or fully HP-based. If the latter, which is the most likely option, they would also have to rework his personal weapon to be HP-based. And, while they are at it, they should adjust the weapon’s passive to also build stacks while the wearer is Off-Field (honestly, that’s the worst part about the weapon).

Another thing they could do is emphasize his Elemental Skill’s Geo Construct resonance a bit more. For example, it could cause Crystallization Shard to explode and deal damaged based on the other, non-Geo, element that was used to create it. Of course, for this to be effective, they would have to make his Pillars considerably more durable, otherwise bosses would continue to topple them with a sneeze.

2. Xiao

Energy. He needs better Energy Recharge. Significantly better, if possible. His Burst is his beard and butter, and it has far too much down time. Xiao already has all the things he needs to be successful. He just needs to be able to use his Burst more often.

3. Xianyun

I’m only really putting Cloud Retainer here so she counts as an Adepti and can provide Xiao with his necessary faction buff. On paper, CR is pretty fine. They could just give her a nominal amount of Energy Recharge and call it a day.

4. Ganyu

Like CR, Ganyu doesn’t really need anything. Adjusting her numbers a little would allow her to keep up with more modern DPS but, otherwise, she’s pretty fine on her own. If Hoyo doesn’t want to just give her a flat buff, they could instead add something that gives her more damage against Frozen targets. Mostly, I’m just including her in this list because she’s an Adepti.

5. Qiqi

Like Xiao, Qigi needs better Energy Recharge. Her Skill not being able to generate particles is… honestly very weird. As for her Burst, her Mark needs an update. Party wide Healing and a Debuff of some description would be best.

Another option is having the Mark act as a time delay bomb, with each hit against someone marked charging up the blast. When it finally explodes, it does AoE damage and Heals the party based on how many hits the enemy takes. And, if an enemy dies with the Mark one, it either explodes and charges up other Marks significantly or it jumps to another target (taking all charges with it).

6. Keqing

Technically, Keqing isn’t an Adepti, but she does fangirl over Rex Lapis, even if she’s not willing to admit it. For that reason, I think she could get a pass. If you want a more logical reason, the factions could be called the Adepti-Qixing Alliance, or something like that.

Better numbers and no stamina cost when she uses her charged attack while it’s Infused with Electro. That’s all that Keqing really needs to bring her back into contention.

7. Ningguang

Again, not technically an Adepti but, she does need a little fix. Her Energy Recharge is atrocious, so that needs to be adjusted. The Star Jades from her Burst could do with some better tracking (so they don’t fly into the floor), although, technically, they don’t have to faction buff her for that.

Numbers-wise, she could do with a bit of a boost, though she’s pretty ok in that department for a 4-Star. I’d say that the best thing would be to have her do something with Crystallization Shards. Maybe have her gather them up and launch them when she uses her Charged Attack.

8. Yanfei

Yet another character that’s only listed because she is an Adepti. Since she doesn’t really have any Adeptal duties, I don’t think anyone would mind if she wasn’t included. That said, if she were to be included, I say that she could do with just a touch more ATK SPD and maybe have her C4 Shield scale off ATK instead of HP.

Honorable Mention: Childe

Despite showing up in Liyue, he’s technically a Snezhnaya character. As such, I don’t think he will be getting a Faction Buff with those listed above. However, this does not mean that he doesn’t need one. His numbers are too low, his Skill’s CD is too long, his Energy Recharge is lacking, and Utility Passive makes very little sense (since his Skill overrides his Normal Attacks). Childe needs a lot of work, though I have a feeling we won’t see any improvements to him until 7.0 at the earliest.
