Destiny 2 Service of Luzaku Review: The Definition of a Niche Exotic
Every Exotic Weapon in Destiny 2 has its niche. Some can go beyond that niche. For the Service of Luzaku, it fulfills its niche and does not go beyond that. If you want a heavy weapon that ties with Strand and Threadling builds, it is ideal. The healing is a nice addition, but it more enables what the Exotic wants to do, instead of being the predominant attraction.
What is the Service of Luzaku Exotic?
Service of Luzaku is a Strand Exotic Light Machine Gun. It is the Season Pass Exotic for Season of the Lawless. Players owning the pass gain access to the weapon at rank 1, while free-to-play players will only unlock it at rank 70. The Exotics perks enable its Strand capabilities:
- Dichotomous Thinking
- Hitting targets with this weapon builds a restorative charge. Hip firing at allies while this weapon is charged heals them, does not expend ammo, and fills this weapon’s magazine from reserves. Rapid healing increases weapon damage and spawns Threadlings from your allies.
- Meaning-Making
- Final blows with this weapon create a Threadling nest that periodically spawns Threadlings. Final blows with this weapon near an existing Threadling nest create a Threadling instead.
Service of Luzaku fires similarly to a Healing Auto Rifle frame. Hip-firing at allies and the Threadling nests fires the healing bullets. Aiming at enemies, fires projectiles that track towards targets. Dealing damage builds up the healing charge.
Service of Luzaku Catalyst
At rank 90 of the Season Pass, players can unlock the catalyst for Service of Luzaku. It reads as follows: Nests now mature over time. Fully mature nests can be harvested with (interact) to grant yourself a held Tangle. You will need to heal the nest a few times to ensure that it matures and allows you to create the Tangle.
Threadlings Galore!
If you want an Exotic that focuses on Strand Threadlings, Service of Luzaku is for you. The combination of Threadlings from the nest, from rapidly healing, and kills near the nest allows you to create an army. Combine that with any Threadling-based Exotic, such as Swarmers, and you are set for all ad-clear purposes. While the catalyst does present additional opportunities for Tangles, it is not required. The only complaint about this weapon is its Reload Speed. It takes an eternity to reload the magazine. Fortunately, the auto-reload from healing allies and the nests makes it bearable.
Service of Luzaku is unlikely to dominate the meta and will not form a part of players’ loadouts in high-end content. However, it is a ton of fun to use and will make clearing rooms of enemies a breeze.
If you want a healing-based weapon, go for Adamantite or No Hesitation instead, as they will be far more efficient. It being an Exotic and Heavy Weapon makes it less appealing than the aforementioned Healing Auto Rifles.
How Does it Fair in PvP?
We highly recommend that you do not use the Service of Luzaku in PvP. It is significantly worse than almost any other LMG in the Crucible. If you can get Threadling nests, it will help, but you are better off using another Heavy Weapon instead.
A Niche Exotic Executed to Perfection
Some Exotics do not need to be the creme de la creme in terms of meta. Service of Luzaku is a perfect example of that. It fills a niche that some players will enjoy the use case. As a Heavy Weapon, it does not feel as good to use for an Exotic, but it fulfills the dream of players wanting to control an entire army of threadlings.
