Don’t Stop Smiling: Show All 32 Pearly Whites! Your Smile Is Your Lifeline!
Indie developer Smiley Dog Studio looked at the universal human experience of forced positivity and made game that puts your smile to the test. Don’t Stop Smiling, a first-person psychological horror title coming to Steam in 2026 that turns your webcam into a face tracker. That doesn’t sound so bad…until you stop smiling.
Now Let’s See Those Smiling Faces

We’ve yelled into microphones for Phasmophobia and flailed around in VR, but Don’t Stop Smiling does something arguably more invasive: it tracks your face, particularly your mouth. The core mechanic is brutally simple: you have to keep smiling, and if you stop, you’re dead. Isn’t that nice? So, imagine trying to hold a grin while navigating a dark, twisted version of a Japanese high school. Wandering the hallways of a haunted Japanese school at night is never scary (I say through chattering teeth).
The Pain and Fear Behind Don’t Stop Smiling

On paper, it sounds easy to make your way through a horror game smiling the whole time, but the devs made sure that it would take a physical toll. Have you ever tried to hold a smile for 45 minutes straight? You face is going to beg for mercy! It hurts and feels… unnatural. Your face will start to twitch, you lips will dry up, and the muscles will ache. Not to mention the fact that you will slowly make your way through a sea of ghosts that pop out of nowhere.
The developer, Smiley Dog Studio, stated their goal was to create “a uniquely disturbing experience built on tension, guilt, and forced emotion.” By physically forcing the player to smile while witnessing horrific events, the game creates a significant disconnect between the player’s body and their brain. You aren’t just watching the horror; you are physically complicit in it while grinning in the dark. That’s messed up, and the best horror feature approach I’ve ever seen.
Cruel Puzzles And Acts

The gameplay seems designed to inflict both physical and psychological damage. You won’t find “aha!” moments here because the puzzles are about guilt. According to the game’s description, progressing through the story requires you to make “morally troubling choices” or participate in harmful acts. You essentially have to smile your way through witnessing and inflicting atrocities. There’s no combat, no running away—just you, your aching face, and a webcam watching you commit to the bit.
Smile Like Ya Mean It!
With its unique game design, Don’t Stop Smiling feels like a breath of fresh (albeit creepy) air. It turns your own body into the controller, forcing you to be mindful of your expressions. The devs have slated a Q2 2026 game release, so if you’re willing to take this creepy dare, you should start practicing in the mirror. Try not to freak your friends and family out because they might send you to a plastic surgeon…and then a mental ward.
