Resident Evil Faux Ebola Village Horror Coming Our Way Jan. 23
New PlayStation first-person horror shooter, Ebola Village, is dropping Jan. 23, and this is a strange one. Aside from the perplexing title of the game, there are many things fans have pointed out is really just plain wrong with the game from what people saw in the trailer that was released on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel. Here’s all we know about the game’s scheduled release on the PlayStation, and why some people are having a problem with it.
Ebola Village PlayStation Trailer
The trailer showcases a few scenes that look almost exactly like content seen across the Resident Evil franchise. One scene in particular depicts the player being chased by a deranged villager wielding a chainsaw, which is exactly what happened in Resident Evil 4, where Leon is chased all around the village by a masked man with a chainsaw.
It’s pointed out by many people that everything from the animations to the visuals screams ‘low budget’, and a completely AI-generated ripoff of a beloved horror series. Fans were quick to point out the gen-AI cover for the video, with people commenting on the title’s font, which looks strikingly similar to the font used in Resident Evil covers. And there’s so much more that was ripped off from what we see in the trailer.
One thing that definitely stood out during that trailer was one scene where the player is shooting at a figure with their head completely blown off and a parasitic creature flailing about on that person’s body. Sound familiar? That’s because these are the exact creatures you come across in, you guessed it, across the Resident Evil series. And this has fans seriously questioning why PlayStation would promote such a low-budget horror game.
PlayStation Promotes Ebola Village with New Trailer

The comments under the recent trailer uploaded on the official PlayStation YouTube channel are pretty negative, and people are honestly confused as to why PlayStation would promote such a game. Here’s what some people had to say under the comment section of the video:
“The most AI-intensive cover in history”
“PlayStation really advertising this?”
“Official PlayStation account advertising a genuine ripoff shovelware game might be a new low”
“We have Resident Evils 4, 7, and 8 at home” vibes here. Truly one of the games of all time.
“Chatgpt create a game about ebola. And generate the title for it and make it look like Resident Evil’s title”
Understandably, people are either pretty upset or making fun of PlayStation for promoting the game altogether. There’s a point when things don’t just become inspiration and instead become a blatant copy, and that’s what Ebola Village is. The copying of Resident Evil’s font, villagers throwing axes, wielding chainsaws, enemies with parasites exploding from their heads, in combination with everything that was shown in the trailer, justifies people’s confusion over PlayStation promoting this game.
Is AI the Issue?
Mind you, Ebola Village was released on Steam last May, and somehow garnered over 300 Very Positive reviews, so this could’ve been a contributing factor as to why PlayStation would promote this game. Although the developers issued an AI content disclosure on the game’s Steam page, it doesn’t detract from the fact that a significant portion of the game’s content was derived from Resident Evil.
The use of AI wasn’t the issue, and I never knock indie games; I love them way too much. But it’s something else when an indie game takes another game’s entire concept and slaps a different title on the cover, thinking they’ve done something great. The PlayStation release of Ebola Village will drop on Jan. 23, 2026.
