Knowing when to use these particular weapons and what attachments pair best with them are important things to consider when choosing a weapon. We will highlight a few of these S-tier weapons and break down their power and usefulness. Weapons like the Beryl M762, FAMAS, P90, and Panzerfaust all make the S-tier list, but here we will review our favorite picks.
- M416: The M416 assault rifle is the most used weapon in PUBG, and it’s not hard to see why. Chambered in 5.56mm and sporting a default 30-round magazine, the M416 is a robust, balanced rifle that offers higher-than-average accuracy and tight shot grouping. With 40 base damage, the M416 can do its maximum damage to a target up to 60 meters before suffering damage falloff. It offers a decent rate of fire and is effective in both close-quarters and medium-to-long range. Bearing five attachment slots, the M416’s effectiveness can be increased by adding an extended mag, 4x scope, vertical grip, and tactical stock.
- AWM: The AWM is a heavy sniper rifle exclusively obtainable from supply drops. It is chambered to use the immensely powerful .300 magnum round, giving it a base damage of 105, second only to the Lynx AMR’s 118. This rifle has amazing range, killing a player wearing a level three helmet at a distance beyond 500 meters. The AWM deals maximum damage out to 150 meters, making it an excellent long-range weapon. You’ll want a 6x or 8x scope for this monster of a rifle, along with a suppressor and extended mag to make your enemies’ lives rough from a good, safe distance.
- Pan: The iconic frying pan has become synonymous with anything PUBG-related. The S-tier ranking of this item may seem questionable, but it’s much more useful than merely cooking your chicken dinner. The pan is bulletproof, able to block every type of bullet fired at it. This makes it useful as a shield of sorts, whether you have it equipped or on your back. This is especially useful if you’re moving while prone and your back is a big target. The pan is also able to kill an unarmored opponent in one hit to the head and has decent melee damage. It can be thrown as well.
PUBG Weapon Tier List: A-Tier
A-tier weapons in the game are great choices to pick up if you don’t have access to S-tier weapons. Weapons in the A-tier include the AUG, Kar98k, Mini14, and MP5k. Though they don’t quite make the cut for the S-tier, these are all very effective weapons in the right hands and with the right attachments. Most of these weapons are fairly common finds on the battlefield, and can effectively carry you through a match. These are our top picks:
- SCAR-L: The SCAR-L is a very versatile assault rifle chambered in 5.56mm. It has a decent rate of fire and moderately low recoil, making it controllable even when using full-auto. The SCAR also boasts a high minimum damage falloff doing a consistent 41 damage with body shots at its optimal range. This is a good starter weapon and is made more effective with a compensator and vertical grip for close range, or a suppressor and 4x scope for long range.
- Kar98k: The Kar98 is a WW2-era, bolt-action rifle equipped to fire the 7.62mm round. Doing an incredible 79 base damage, the Kar98 is perfect for sniping. The rifle keeps its base damage up to 100 meters before succumbing to damage falloff. We would advise only using this rifle at a distance, as its bolt-action eats up precious seconds between shots. To maximize the Kar98’s effectiveness, equip it with a sniper scope, bullet loops for faster reloading, and a suppressor.
- Vector: The Vector submachine gun fires 9mm rounds and has a very high rate of fire. The Vector’s high speed, low recoil, and reasonable accuracy are perfect for ripping through the armor of your enemies at close range. We suggest finding an extended mag for this weapon first, as its default magazine capacity is only 19. Combine this with a laser sight or foregrip, along with a holographic sight and compensator, and you’ll be set.
PUBG Weapon Tier List: B-Tier
The B-tier is reserved for weapons that are average-rated in usefulness. Weapons in the B-tier include the M16A4, Win94, UMP45, and the M249. Despite their lower tier ranking, these weapons can still be used to win matches if used correctly. If no higher-tier weapons can be found, the B-tier still offers a great selection of guns that can get the job done. These are some of our go-to’s:
- SKS: The SKS is a designated marksman rifle (DMR), that is an effective hybrid of an assault rifle and sniper rifle. Chambered in the powerful 7.62mm round, this rifle is best used at medium to long range. The SKS has a default magazine capacity of 10, which can be increased to 20 with an extended mag. Being a DMR, it can also accept sniper scopes like the 8x. The SKS does 53 base damage and has 5 attachment slots, which means it can be customized for accuracy, controllability, and consistency. The SKS is a great pick for your team’s sniper if they can’t find an actual sniper rifle.
- Micro Uzi: The Micro Uzi fires the 9mm cartridge and with its extremely high rate of fire, is devastating at close range. It is a great weapon to pick up first as it will absolutely shred anyone in your way as you first land. Equipping an extended mag, a stock, and a compensator will make the Uzi a surprisingly controllable bullet hose that is unmatched in close combat. The high rate of fire can also be a drawback, however, so keeping an eye on your ammo count while firing is imperative.
- M249: The M249 is a light machine gun chambered in 5.56mm. It is recommended to equip an extended mag, increasing its capacity to 150. This weapon is ideal for suppressing enemy teams while your team flanks, due to its high volume of fire. The M249 is equipped with a bipod, enabled by going prone, which greatly reduces recoil and provides much-needed stability. Pair it with either a holo sight or 2x scope as anything with more magnification is impractical. Best used as a way to overwhelm the enemy and force them to take cover.
PUBG Weapon Tier List: C-Tier
The C-tier consists of weapons that are not as sought after, due to better options being available. However, some of these weapons can be effective in their own right. Weapons in this tier include the VSS, Bizon, Sawed-off shotgun, and DP-28. Again, if none of the higher-tier weapons can be found, you’ll most likely have to choose from one of these. Here are some of our top choices for B-tier:
- DBS: The DBS is a double-barrel pump-action shotgun that fires 12 gauge shells. This shotgun has a unique design that implements two feed tubes, with seven shells in each tube. After every two shots, the pump is racked to feed the next two shells. This cycling method gives the weapon a high rate of fire for a shotgun, making it a nightmare for enemies caught within its effective range. Keep an eye on your ammo though, as reloading to max capacity leaves you defenseless for several seconds. There is only one attachment slot for the DBS, so put your optic of choice on it.
- Tommy Gun: Another WW2-era weapon, the iconic tommy gun is a .45 submachine gun. The .45 caliber round is slower than the 9mm but makes up for it in power. With the ability to equip a 50-round drum magazine, the tommy gun can do a significant amount of damage in a short time. Couple it with a compensator and a vertical foregrip to manage its high recoil.
- Deagle: Of all the handguns in the game, there are probably none worth seriously considering besides the Deagle. Chambered in .45, it has the capability of piercing a level 3 helmet in just two headshots. You will most likely not have to use pistols much in PUBG, but if you need a reliable sidearm, look no further. Equip it with an extended mag, laser, and red dot or holo sight.
Choose Your Weapon Wisely
There is also a D-tier list that is made up of weapons that are best left behind. These include most pistols, as you shouldn’t be relying on them anyway, most melee weapons for the same reason, and the crossbow. Although the crossbow deals high damage comparable to the AWM, the speed of the bolt is slow and it has long reload times. The mortar is another item that is more of a time waster than it is an effective offensive weapon. Literally, any of the higher-tier weapons should be chosen over the ones in the D-tier.
