Hytale Fan’s Dream of Fruit Trees Becomes a Reality

YouTuber and streamer Prowl8413 dreamed about playing Hytale, a Minecraft-inspired action game. In his dream, he saw fruit trees that regrew their fruit. Prowl8413 said to Hytale director and owner Simon Collins-Laflamme, “Tell me this is a thing.”

Collins-Laflamme replied to Prowl8413 that the game had bushes with berries “but no fruit trees yet!” However, one week later, Collins-Laflamme replied to the post with “Actually.” This led Prowl8413 to look for further information or context, but to no avail. GamesRadar+’s Anthony McGlynn presumed that Hytale will have abundant fruit trees.

Hytale: The Minecraft-Inspired Miracle

Hytale itself is a miracle. The game was originally set to come out this month, but Riot Games (the game’s original studio) cancelled the game during the summer of 2025. Collins-Laflamme, as Hypixel’s owner, acquired the rights to the game, but the game needed lots of maintenance.

On X (formerly Twitter), Collins-Laflamme expressed his frustration at how Hypixel received Hytale in a very poor state. He wrote:

“It’s a damn miracle we were able to salvage Hytale. It was barely playable. All basics were broken. Camera, movement, combat, crafting, building, gameloop, sounds, rendering. Everything, everything was wrong.”

He added that prior to now, Riot Games dedicated “four years of engineering” to rebuild the game’s engine. This turned into the same amount of time required to fix the game’s issues. He added, “When you don’t invest in gameplay, you don’t just lose time.”

He continued, “You lose momentum, iteration, and player feedback. Now the focus has to be on gameplay first and rebuilding trust by actually shipping things at a rapid pace.” He said that fixing the game should have taken years, but Hypixel restored the game into a playable and fun state. He concluded that rather than taking it easy and celebrating Hytale’s launch, the team must continue pushing for years to make up for lost time.

Hypixel Studios’ Philosophy

According to Hytale’s site, the game is an adventure “built for both creation and play,” combining the freedom of sandbox games with the momentum of RPGs. Players can explore a procedurally generated world full of dungeons, secrets and many creatures, as well as shaping the world with every block.

Joe, a member of Hypixel who handles Hytale’s lore, explained that when the game was announced in 2019, the company released lots of concept art. Since most of the concept art was already outdated when they were released, they were eventually unimplemented. All current and former sheets of concept art had the clear disclaimer that the art was not guaranteed to be in the final game.

Regarding the game’s lore, Joe said that changes resulted in parts either being dropped entirely or heavily revised. Hypixel eventually decided to stick with an early draft of Hytale’s lore. Joe continued that any unrevealed aspects of the game’s lore may end up not being used in the final game.

Joe said this regarding Hypixel’s philosophy in terms of Hytale’s lore:

Lore should not be a strict set of rules that everyone on the team is required to follow when designing content. It should be an inspiration that fuels creativity and allows experimentation, but also a set of guardrails to ensure we don’t get too far off track and that everything remains consistent.

When Can I Play?

Hytale will arrive in Early Access on January 13, 2026. Currently, the game is set to be Windows-only and has three pre-purchase tiers: Standard for $20; Supporter for $35 and Cursebreaker (Founder’s Edition) for $70. During the early access period, there will be an emphasis on Modding, an Exploration Mode and a Creative Mode.

In the blog post announcing Hytale’s acquisition from Riot Games, Simon Collins-Laflamme wrote that Hypixel will attempt a Mac version and a Linux version of the game.
