Pauline, the fan-favorite character from Super Mario Odyssey, is back, though not in a sequel to the hit game. Instead, she’ll be a playable character in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the upcoming party game set to send the Nintendo Switch off in style. It was going to include 20 playable characters, and now the mayor of New Donk City is going to be one of them. This is a first for the Mario Party franchise.
Pauline Coming to Super Mario Party Jamboree
With Super Mario Party Jamboree right around the corner, Nintendo has begun ramping up the marketing. A new website in Japan has popped up showing plenty of screenshots of gameplay. There are minigames, maps, and more. It’s worth a look if you’re interested in what the game will entail when it releases on October 17, but there’s one important discovery: Pauline is a playable character.
Eagle-eyed X user NSuperGamerGuy noticed Pauline and shared the image to X, where it has practically gone viral. Since her appearance in Odyssey, Pauline has been in several games: Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Golf: Super Rush, and Mario Strikers: Battle League. This will be her first time on a board game, though. The game’s official synopsis reads:
“Mario and friends arrive on an enormous island resort in Super Mario Party Jamboree. Explore five new game boards: Ride the escalators in Rainbow Galleria, stay on track in Roll ’em Raceway, and mix things up with an active volcano in Goomba Lagoon, just to name a few. Two boards from previous Mario Party games are making a return too.”
Now, those “friends” include Pauline and 18 other Mario characters.
All Super Mario Party Jamboree Characters
Super Mario Party Jamboree will match the series’ highest total with 20 possible playable characters. With some game modes allowing up to 20 players in online play, there will be no repeats. These characters are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Rosalina, Yoshi, Birdo, Toad, Toadette, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Spike, Monty Mole, Ninji, and Pauline.
Those are all the playable characters, but they’re not the only ones joining Super Mario Party Jamboree. Non-playable characters (NPCs) include Kamek, Mega Wiggler, Piranha Plants, Monty Mole, Toads, Koopa Troopas, Koopa Paratroopas, Shy Guys, Goombas, Huckit Crabs, Bloopers, Gold Goombas, Steamer, Boom Boom, Lakitu, Wiggler, Para-Biddybuds, Snifit, Peepa, Yoshis, Amps, Ty-foos, Dry Bones, Lava Bubble, Chargin’ Chuck, Toady, Plessie, Magmaarghs, Penguins, Hammer Bros., and Pom Pom. Cameos will be made by Sushi, Dragoneel, Cheep Cheep, Banzai Bill, Boo, and more than a few other iconic pieces from Mario games.
