The Twinkling Painting is one of many art pieces players can find in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Each of these in-game items derives from a real-world counterpart. Paintings are used for decoration, whether hung on a wall or displayed on an easel. Artwork can also be donated to the island’s Museum. Many players make it a personal goal to complete the Museum’s art gallery. Here is all you need to know about the Twinkling Painting.
What is the Twinkling Painting?
The Twinkling Painting is a piece of art introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the 1.2.0 April Free Update. The painting can be bought for 4,980 Bells and sold for 1,245 Bells. While the player should exercise caution when obtaining artwork, as forgeries exist, the Twinkling Painting will always be genuine. When viewing the painting’s placard in the Museum, the following description is given:
“Van Gogh’s signature piece, painted while he was hospitalized at an asylum. This view from his room includes memories and imaginations. In letters to friends, the artist called it a failure.”
One of the more famous real-world pieces featured in the game, the Twinkling Painting is based on Vincent Van Gogh’s oil-on-canvas work The Starry Night. As mentioned in the museum description, Van Gogh painted The Starry Night in 1889 while residing in the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, located in southern France near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The piece was made while Van Gogh suffered from severe depression and hallucinations. The Starry Night has struck a chord with audiences worldwide due to its dreamlike composition, captured by seamless brush strokes that blend nature with civilization.
How to Get the Twinkling Painting
To purchase the Twinkling Painting, the player must wait for Redd to make an appearance inside his Treasure Trawler. The black market boat will be moored at the northernmost beach on the player’s island. Inside, Redd will be selling an assortment of artwork and other miscellaneous items. The player can also attempt to buy the painting at Redd’s camper on Harv’s Island. Whether the Twinkling Painting will be one of the available options is random. Note that while Redd will attend events like the Fireworks Show, artwork cannot be bought from him during that time.
If Redd has yet to appear on your island, you must ensure you have made at least sixty donations in sum to the Museum. Once this has been completed, Redd will make a series of trips to your island; this eventually results in him appearing as a potential weekly visitor. The player can only buy 1 piece of art from Redd at a time. This can be gamed somewhat by creating multiple Switch profiles and having 4 player characters. Once the Twinkling Painting has been donated, the player—as well as the villagers—can visit the Museum and admire the work of art in its designated section.
In Conclusion
Completing the artwork collection in the Museum is a laborious process. Redd’s appearances on the island are sporadic and the limitation of 1 piece of art per character makes it more difficult. Thankfully, the WiFi capabilities of Animal Crossing: New Horizons offer easier opportunities to meet other players. There are numerous communities where one can meet and exchange/buy artwork from others. This makes completing the art gallery a feasible task. The Twinkling Painting is just one of these many pieces you must seek out to complete the Museum.
