The cozy lifestyle Palia is over a year old since launching in beta in August of 2023. While silver ore was one of the game’s original crafting materials and could be used for crafting and making money. The updates Palia has received while being in open beta have not only seen a price increase in silver ore. Before you can do anything with silver ore, you first need to acquire it. The only way to do so is by mining copper deposits in the starting area, Kilima Valley. Small copper deposits won’t do though. Instead, you’ll need to mine the medium and large deposits in the starting area in Palia. Medium and large copper deposits can usually be found on top of or near cliff faces in Kilima. Unfortunately, silver ore isn’t a guaranteed resource and is instead randomly acquired which means it can take some time to get a decent stock of it.

On the bright side though, it means you’re going to get a whole lot of copper ore which can be useful for making money, especially early on in Palia. Once you have five silver ore, you’ll be able to smelt it into a silver bar. Smelting can be done at either a basic smelter or a heavy smelter. The main difference between the two is that the heavy smelter takes less time to smelt ore into bars. Once you’ve smelt your silver ore into bars, you can start crafting with it. Besides crafting, you can also gift silver ore to other villagers in Kilima as well as Bahari Bay.

Crafting With Silver Bars

After you obtain some silver bars via smelting, you’ll be able to craft with them. One of the items you can craft is the helpful Ore Compass which allows your character to track rare mining modes for 15 minutes. You can also craft certain furniture with silver bars including the Homestead Mirror, Ravenwood Mirror, and the Dragontide Wall Clock among others. The romance quest ‘Beauty in Unexpected Places‘ also requires a silver bar to create a brooch. Some of the romance pins you can make in-game also need a silver bar.

Same with silver ore, silver bars can also be used as gifts to up some villager’s affection(s) towards you. The resident blacksmith Hodari is a fan of them as is the mayor’s wife Eshe. You can also sell silver bars either directly to Zeki or by putting them in the sell bin outside your character’s house. Currently, you can get 305 gold per bar you sell but considering how much work it takes to get silver ore, It’s best to just hang onto it.

Final Thoughts

While there are more people you can gift silver ore and bars to as well as craft items with, its use is fairly limited outside of that. Perhaps in the upcoming updates the game will surely receive on its way to a future 1.0 release, we could see more varied uses for the shiny metal. It’d be cool to see more crafting items added in the game that require silver or even more villagers that we could gift silver to. Until that day comes, players will need to be content with its limited uses.
