Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has just celebrated its first anniversary. It’s quite hard that this game has already been out for a single year at this time. In celebration, Sony has recently announced that the game will be ported to PC. That is the big Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 announcement. What about the heavily rumored and speculated DLC expansion? Let’s dive into the recent news that confirms many fans’ fears.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Coming to PC
On the official PlayStation YouTube channel, they recently released a 48-second-long video announcing that the game will be ported to PC at the start of next year. On the bright side, the release date is quickly on the horizon. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be making its way to PC on January 30, 2025. This is a good bit of news due to the simple fact that it is so soon. In only a couple of months, many PC gaming fans can finally sink their teeth into this new Spider-Man adventure.
Interestingly enough, this PC port has very few features advertised. Many PC ports will include new modes and customization. In this trailer for the PC port, there are no new features shown off at all. It’s just clips from the main game’s story and gameplay. When the previous games were ported to PC, it’s not like they were touting dozens and dozens of new features, but for the first Spider-Man game, they at least packaged together all the previously released DLC for the PC version. Maybe they’ll do that for this game too, right?
Insomniac Speaks on Potential DLC
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the time of writing has still not received any DLC expansions. Unlike the original game, which had a total of three DLC episodes released in the three months after the game’s release. In a recent press release, Insomniac mentioned that as of now, they have no plans for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC. The big question on many gamers’ minds is “Why?”. There has not been an official reason for this.
Not that it needs to be said, but the Insomniac leak which happened earlier this year did a number on their company. Many fans found out through those leaks that initially, there were plans for a future DLC expansion that could involve the Beetle. This is a very underrated and colorful villain from the old-school Spider-Man comics and reinvented for the modern age with a new supervillain secret identity. Unfortunately, these DLC plans must have been scrapped, even though admittedly, they were never officially confirmed.
The Future of Insomniac’s Spidey Games
In that Insomniac leak, fans also saw the pipeline that the rest of the Spider-Man series will take. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released, and the sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is planned to come out around 2030. These dates are all subject to change, of course. A spin-off game starring Venom of all characters was planned to come out in the second quarter of 2025. Fans have still not heard anything about this potential game and are wondering if it’s still going to come out. Many fans are excited at the premise, which has Venom as the main playable character.
While none of this is confirmed at all other than leaks, there are also other playable Spider characters set to appear. Could it be like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with Peter and Miles, or maybe even Cindy Moon as Silk, which was teased in the second game? It’s hard to tell, and even harder to know, since this is all hearsay and rumor-based and came from leaks. Will this Venom game be released? Or scrapped? Only time will tell. It’s unfortunate what happened with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the lack of DLC. All fans can hope for is for Insomniac to bounce back and make the next games in the series even greater.
