3 Indie Co-op Horror Games Perfect For Halloween Night

Halloween is finally here, and that means enjoyers of the spooky season are looking for things to do with their friends. For online friend groups who can’t go candy hunting or haunted house exploring, co-op horror games are always a good option. Luckily for them, there are many in the current market. While there are many options to explore for the night, the three on this list might be just right for Halloween night.

Spectral Scream

The first option on the list is Spectral Scream. It’s a co-op horror game from Stoic Entertainment Inc. It allows up to four players to explore and face the dangers of death as they attempt to make it out of purgatory. The name of this horror game is to find key items in each chapter and retrieve a special orb. As simple as it may sound, players face a variety of dangers from different monstrous creatures ready to stand in their way. The items needed to escape are sometimes not quickly found. Their discovery can be hidden behind puzzles that brave groups of players are required to solve.

For the Halloween season, the developers released an update with an event that’s perfect for the spooky holiday. During the event, players can collect Halloween Coins in special maps shrouded in darkness to earn rewards. These rewards include Jack O’ Lantern masks, suits, and Halloween emotes. That means players have the chance to roam purgatory while donning a sweet and spooky style during future explorations.

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia continues to be a dominating force among co-op horror games. That sentiment holds especially true now that the game is on consoles. Since its 2020 release, groups of up to four players have been hunting down ghosts with specialized tools while trying not to join the land of the dead themselves. In the game’s current state, there are 24 types of ghosts to track down and 13 maps to explore. As it stands, Kinetic Games has shown no signs of bringing the game’s ongoing improvement to an end.

For Halloween, players can once again experience a spooky special event. The Crimson Eye Blood Moon event brings down a constant downpour across multiple maps. During the Blood Moon, groups of up to four players must work together to complete a set of three Community Goals. Each of them rewards a special ID card while players work towards the final rewards. Those rewards are a special trophy as well as the ability to permanently unlock the Blood Moon weather pattern. The spooky downpours can modify future hunts, provide better rewards, and even alter the behavior of ghosts.

Dark Hours

Dark Hours, a game by Piece of Cake Studios, is the newest title on the list. The game was just released on October 24. In the game, groups of up to four people take on the role of thieves who are up to some trouble. That trouble only worsens as a heist becomes a haunt thanks to an evil entity they become trapped with. The mission then quickly becomes one of survival and avoiding scares instead of robbery. However, players are still able to loot valuables in hopes of selling them when morning comes.

To survive in the haunted auction house, players need to work together to survive the night. In the procedurally generated game, players must solve minigames, deactivate lasers and cameras, and take advantage of the building’s secrets. All the while, they must also try their best to avoid the darkness that lurks within the halls. Luckily, they’ll be able to use some classic robbery tools, like crowbars and hacking devices, to help keep themselves alive.

Creepy Conclusion

While the three games on this list are all great options, there is an abundance of co-op horror games to choose from. For online friend groups, these games are the perfect way to spend the night. They can snack on some candy, wear costumes on camera, and settle down for a night of fun and terror. For lovers of all things horror, what better way to celebrate the spooky holiday than to share scares with close friends? It’s likely as fun as watching a B-rated horror movie with each other.
