Monster Hunter Wilds Beta: Full PC Performance Review

Monster Hunter Wilds Beta

Hundreds of thousands of people have been enjoying the Monster Hunter Wilds beta on PC since the servers were opened. In fact, the all-time peak of Steam users who played the game at the same time stands at more than 450 thousand. But how well does the demo run on all of these systems? While the PCs of the players vary in strength and hardware, this review was done using a PC that meets the requirements for the highest settings.

PC Specs Used For Testing

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor
  • RAM: 31.92 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
  • VRAM: 15.67 GB

The Beauty Of The Beta

During the four hours used when testing the open beta for this article, the overall look of the game was impressive. Using the Ultra settings, the world of the Monster Hunter Wilds beta appears vibrant and filled with immense amounts of detail. Of course, such detail usually requires some extra oomph when it comes to a PC’s GPU. However, with the RTX 4080 used during testing, the game wasn’t very demanding at all. At maximum, the temperature of the GPU only reached 57º Celsius, and only 42% of it was being utilized. It’s important to note that this test happened while apps like OBS and Discord were running at the same time.

While the graphics for this performance review were better than expected at times, other players have been having quite a struggle. Across social media spaces like X (formerly Twitter), players are reporting seeing a mess of low-poly nightmares. Some of the examples show the mighty Rey Dau being reduced to a collection of bright yellow triangles. The only low-poly models seen in this test were other players and a couple of NPCs before they were rendered properly. Not a single horrific monster was seen during the entire test.

All About The Frame Rates

Discussions surrounding frame rates for PC have been ongoing since before the Monster Hunter Wilds beta was announced. PC users have been uncertain how well the game will be optimized for their systems. During the test used for this article, frame rates seemed to hold steady at around 60 fps for nearly the entire time. This is with the default Ultra settings.

There were only a few circumstances when a dip in frame rates was noticeable. One of them was when a group of 15 player characters were seen at Base Camp. The other was during a surprise disconnect from the server, which only happened once. It’s unclear if the disconnect was because of the server or WiFi issues.

Final Thoughts

While the excitement for the Monster Hunter Wilds beta was extremely high, there are important key factors to note. It’s important to keep in mind that it is an early build of the game. The full game is lengths ahead of this beta, as confirmed by the official X account for the game.

Also, experiencing bugs, crashes, and optimization issues during the Beta is actually a good thing. Players can report them to help the developers ensure that the full game runs more smoothly. One way they can do this is by taking part in the official survey for the beta. Issues or not, this is just a small taste of the full release.
