The lifeblood of an MMORPG like Final Fantasy 14 is in its updates. As players pay their monthly subscriptions, new content is delivered in patches. While many look forward to new combat encounters or story progression, the smaller quality-of-life updates can be a bigger deal than most realize. Whether the developers are responding to feedback or offering something no one expected, these improvements make the game better for everyone. When patch 7.1 launches on November 12, these three updates might be the best being offered this time around.
Glamour Dresser Update
A common refrain in Final Fantasy 14 is that “glamour is the endgame.” Glamour, in this case, refers to the system by which weapons and armor can have their appearance changed. This way, the players can make their characters look how they want at all times. An update to this system will help players deal with storage. The Glamour Dresser stores items that players can use to create custom outfits. However, it can only store so many items. An update in 7.1 will allow certain full outfits to be stored as a single item, freeing up space. Each item can still be applied separately, making this a no-brainer for conserving space.
Duty Support Improvements
In the Shadowbringers expansion, dungeons received an update allowing players to party up with NPCs to complete story content. Throughout the Endwalker expansion, this functionality (now called Duty Support) was added to all story dungeons dating back to the beginning of the game’s story. With this out of the way, Final Fantasy 14’s developers are expanding this feature in Dawntrail’s patches, now adding it to optional content. Many dungeons are not required as part of the story, but players may still want to engage with NPCs regardless. As more patches come, more dungeons will receive this functionality and make the game increasingly playable solo.
Housing Expansion
Housing in Final Fantasy 14 is difficult to get into but provides those lucky enough to win a home the chance of decoration. Currently, a house’s interior is determined by its exterior and cannot be updated. In 7.1, this will change as players can modify the interior of their home by purchasing new designs. Some new designs will even be added that have never existed before, alongside those that match the exteriors. This will also include an option to remove various pillars alongside the walls, granting players a chance to add more furniture should they desire extra space for it.
Final Thoughts
While these updates may seem minor, they each address a major aspect of the game that the community engages with. Small opportunities to improve the game are taken, and players receive reasons to return to the game and enjoy its improvements. Notably, each of these features is also larger than one small fix, creating opportunities for further additions down the line. More and more dungeons (and potentially other content) will receive single-player opportunities, while enhancements to the glamour dresser and housing will create the possibility for far more player expression down the line. Players don’t have long to wait to see these updates when Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail updates to patch 7.1 on November 12.
