3 Indie Horror Games Arriving For The Holiday Season

Indie Horror Game Go Home Annie

Even though Halloween is over, the indie horror games are still coming in waves. For avid games of all things scary, any time is prime time to experience scares, shocks, and screams. Luckily, for those who want their dose of indie horror during the holiday season, there are some titles being released to be excited for. Keep in mind that there are more games likely to be released than what’s on these list. However, indie horror fans should keep their eyes these three specifically.

Go Home Annie

Go Home Annie is a psychological thriller from Misfit Village that’s set in the SCP universe. For those unfamiliar, SCP stands for “Secure, Contain, Protect.” It revolves around the SCP Foundation, a fictional secretive organization that is tasked with capturing, studying, and protecting the world from often terrifying creatures or phenomena. In Go Home Annie, players take on the role as an employee for the SCP Foundation. The job in this game is to test artificially created paranormal events and anomalous entities.

Of course, the horrific job isn’t set to go smoothly. Players will be forced to deal with situations involving terrifying scenarios like loose subjects. At the same time, players will need to utilize anomalies to solve puzzles and make their way through the seemingly never-ending halls within the game. The game is a love letter to SCP fans, especially since they will be encountering some of the most well-known entities as well as lesser-known gems. This indie horror thriller is slated for a December 3 release.

Among Ashes

Among Ashes by Rat Cliff Games takes the classic tale of a haunted video game and adds in its own style. In this horror game, players will be tasked with playing through a fictional game called Night Call. The game within a game is one full of puzzles, winding halls, and monsters to defeat. While diving deeper into that game, things start to go bump in the night in the so-called real world. There is a dark entity latched onto Night Call, and playing the game unleashes that darkness into the player character’s life.

In this indie horror game, players must continue exploring the retro-inspired game even though what goes on in the main character’s apartment is more pressing. If they do not do this task, the mystery behind Night Call will never be solved. The main character will likely not even survive the night. Among Ashes is set to release at some point in December. The specific day has yet to be announced. A free demo for the game is also available for anyone who enjoys trying before buying.

10 Dead Doves

For fans of folklore, 10 Dead Doves might just be the indie horror gem for them. The game was made by Duonix Studios, Mark Byram II, and Sean-Michael Millard. It’s a narrative horror that is set in the heart of Appalachia, a region filled with troves of folklore just waiting to be explored. Players take on the role of Marcus Stetson, a person the official Steam description calls the “Most Pathetic Man On Earth.” He decides to team up with his friend, Sean, for one last backpacking journey through the Appalachian Trail to find the Ant Farm, a legendary urban legend.

The two get much more than what they bargain for, as indie horror games tend to go. Players will experience a short game full of beautiful environments, strange locations, and disturbing happenings. They’ll need to solve puzzles and unravel mysteries while trying to uncover the secrets that the vast mountains of Appalachia hold. Just like the previous game, 10 Dead Doves has a release window of December without a specific day. There is a demo readily available for this game as well.

Conclusion

As previously mentioned, there may very well be many more indie horror games releasing just in time for the holiday season. Players who enjoy their scares are encouraged to search for the games that might very well turn into gems in their eyes. Being scared through a screen isn’t how most people enjoy spending the holidays. However, it feels just right for the many enjoyers of indie horror around the world.
