Pre-orders are officially live for players who can’t wait to get their hands on Avowed. Obsidian Entertainment, the studio developing the action RPG, made the announcement on November 14. Along with that exciting news, there is also a way to play the game early, but it’ll cost you. Fans of the studio and its works have been waiting for this news since the game was first announced back in 2020. Now that the news is finally here, let’s get into the fantasy-filled details.
The Official Release Date
The official release date for Avowed is February 18, 2025. This makes that particular month an even bigger time for gamers. Other big titles like Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Fable, and many more are also set to be released in February. The game was originally meant to be released this year. Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has given the reason for the delay. He said that the delay was meant to pace out the number of games coming to Game Pass. Luckily, this will give players a bit of breathing room, given the next few months are set to be filled with action-packed and fantastic titles.
How To Play The Game Early
Luckily, for those who want to get their hands on Avowed before February 18, there is a way to do that. However, it’ll take dipping a bit more into the bank account to make it happen. Those who pre-purchase the Premium Edition of this action RPG will be able to play the game early. That particular version will set buyers back $89.99 compared to the base game’s $69.99. While it may hurt the wallet, future players, thankfully, have some time to save up. It seems these sorts of prices are truly the new standard among AAA games, even if they are painful to deal with.
Of course, the Premium Edition of Avowed comes with other perks besides advanced access. Those who choose to spend a bit more on this version will receive two premium skins. These skins can be used for both the player character and their in-game companions. For those who love to gaze at the beauty of video game art, the Premium Edition also provides a digital artbook as well as the original soundtrack from the game. While the offerings may seem a bit thin compared to what other games offer, at least it gives players the ability to begin their adventures in the game early.
What To Expect From The Game
With both versions of the game, players will experience an action-packed and fantasy-filled story in Avowed. The story takes place in the fictional world of Eora, which was introduced in Obsidian’s 2015 game, Pillars of Eternity. Players will be taking on the role of the envoy who is investigating a rumor involving a devastating plague spreading through the Living Lands. The Living Lands is a mysterious island full of secrets, danger, and untamed landscapes. Players will need to unravel these mysteries and conquer these dangers to fully discover the cause of this plague.
Moving to the gameplay, players should expect combat that the official Steam description of the game calls “visceral.” Players will be able to use a combination of swords, spells, guns, bows, and shields to fight their way through the story. Players won’t be alone in their troublesome journey though. They will be able to travel with a cast of colorful characters, including a former mercenary or a wizard. What’s most interesting about these companions is that they come from different species. This is quite different from The Outer Worlds, another game by Obsidian Entertainment. It will be exciting to see the impact they and the player characters have in the mysterious story of Avowed.
