In the world of gaming, there is hardly anyone who hasn’t heard of PlayStation or its games. From the very first console, PlayStation has changed a lot, with amazing titles like Final Fantasy VII that have grown into modern-day masterpieces like God of War: Ragnarok and more. From the first to the present, PlayStation has established itself as a gaming pillar in the industry. It has accomplished this by selling so many consoles over three decades with an assortment of variations, portable attachments, and next-generation consoles in almost every part of the world. It has brought us the PS5 Pro, which can now be pre-ordered. Now, Sony is celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary!
30 Years Of PlayStation
This week makes 30 years since the first PlayStation was released. To celebrate, Sony is marking the occasion by offering some back games and consoles. It has shown this through a retrospective trailer sharing some of the most memorable moments Sony has shared through its games. The video primarily focuses on newer PS games like Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Gran Turismo 7. Still, brief snippets of other influential games like Batman: Arkham Knight and Crash Bandicoot are also shown, awakening the hero in us all. The video uses Dreams by The Cranberries as the backing track.
PlayStation, Started With The First
Since the first day of the PS Console’s arrival in North America in 1995, Sony has brought us 14 other PlayStation consoles. Over the years, they have changed from Slim-adjusted models to massive gaming machines that would tempt any gamer. Then there are the two portable consoles Sony has given us.
The Sony PS is the console that started it all in a significant departure from the industry leader Nintendo’s cartridge-based approach. The PlayStation utilized CD-ROM. These discs had much more space, leading to substantial developers like Square Enix crafting games for the console. The PlayStation is forever remembered for titles like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 2, Vagrant Story, Crash Bandicoot, and many more excellent PS1 games.
PlayStation 5 Updates
PlayStation 5 console owners can also dress the console’s user interface up with several retro themes available for a limited time. Buyers can switch between colored themes that reference the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 consoles. Some of the changes here include updating the UI with elements from the classic hardware. For example, there is the opportunity to change things up and go with the original PS1 gray box.
The best part is that when PlayStation 5 owners update their consoles, they boot up with a modified animation that reflects the first PlayStation console, right down to the iconic sound effects from its start-up screen. This adds the option of honor and a nostalgic feeling to the modern-day consoles.
It’s An Anniversary Party
Sony has more to offer now to promote this anniversary. That includes discounts on games and a sweepstakes competition in which lucky winners will be rewarded with 30 months of PS Plus. Also, it has released a limited-edition PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation accessories to mark the occasion. In case you missed it, this month’s PS Plus games are It Takes Two, Temtem, and Aliens: Dark Descent.
Sony is offering all this for the 30th anniversary and has delivered word on the PS 5 Pro. This console is Sony’s biggest and most ambitious ever yet. It’s the biggest console released just last month. Pre-orders began in late September and are now available at most retailers. It offers an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, enhanced framerates of 60hz to 120hz, and AI-driven upscaling. It will also support VRR and 8K resolutions. PlayStation continues to offer us new and engaging ways to play. Over the past 30 years, Sony has constantly changed the way we play.
