We were given the world premiere trailer of The Witcher 4 tonight at the 10th anniversary of the Video Game Awards. This trailer has brought to light a lot of rumors that have been floating around.
A New Chapter Begins
The Witcher 4 cinematic trailer was revealed, and it has been confirmed that Ciri will be taking the reins in this new chapter. In this new trailer, we see a woman being cleaned and bathed for a ritual. Then we take a slide to Ciri, hooded and dressed in armor, she handles her blades as she meditates. The woman comes out in a dress and a flower crown as the woman’s father hints at a ritual for the woman to be sacrificed.
Ciri watches for a distance until interacted by a villager who asks her why she is there and that she must not intervene with the ritual as the woman is deemed to die by the “gods.” Ciri being herself and a Witcher, goes ahead with the hunt. As she tracks the woman and the monster, Ciri tells her to leave. After she ran away, Ciri went to fight the monster. There is whispering in the background sounds like it comes from the villagers as they mention the ritual.
The villagers whisper and tell Ciri to leave before her “Swords get them killed.” Ciri takes her Witcher potions and transforms. The monster reveals itself, with multiple arms and a hag-like face. As Ciri is pinned against the wall she pulls out her own magic and proceeds to get the upper hand on the monster. She gathers her strength and uses a chain to get the monster under control, where she proceeds to take the monster down. The monster seems to be using the voices/whispers from earlier to try and persuade her. Ciri proceeds to sever its head.
As she returns to the village she finds the daughter in the arms of his father, dead. A blade in her chest was killed by the villager who tried to stop Ciri earlier claiming she was chosen to die and that Ciri should not have intervened. The male villager exclaims his hatred towards Ciri for halting it. Ciri shows her anger as she walks toward the villagers. Geralt’s voice comes by as he says it’s time for a new saga.
Predictions
There can be a lot to be said for this new saga. With Ciri taking the reigns now, we can see new magic, new skills, and styles. Some that have remembrance of the teaching she learned from Geralt and Vesemir. She was handling a second weapon, a chain in her left hand that she used to channel her magic through. We might see more fighting styles with it allowing for more alternative styles. Witcher 4, despite not having gameplay, looks like it’s already leading towards a new start with a new Witcher. Both to a goodbye to our old friend Geralt, and to a new start with Ciri, it looks like a beautiful new beginning.
