Microsoft Talks Xbox Games on Nintendo: ‘Really Looking Forward’ to Supporting Switch 2

Microsoft and Nintendo are teaming up

Microsoft and Nintendo are teaming up in a big way. The console wars have long been fought with titles that can only be played on a certain system. It has led many gamers to have to spend big money on multiple consoles simply to play all of their favorite games. However, the announcement of the Switch 2 came with another bombshell. Microsoft is planning on supporting the new console with Xbox games. Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer talked about how the company is “really looking forward” to supporting their rivals’ new console.

Microsoft Gaming CEO On Support Nintendo Switch 2

Certain titles have already been teased. Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection have already been announced, and reports indicate there may be no limit on the number of Xbox titles coming to the Switch 2. As long as the hardware can run the game, it will probably be available. Microsoft has been supporting games on the original Switch, a console that Spencer praised in a recent interview, along with the reveal of the next-gen console.

“Nintendo and their innovation, what they mean in this industry, I just always applaud the moves that they make. They did a little flash video. I know we’ll get more detail over time. Really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have. I just think they’re such an important part of this industry. It’s hard with what’s publicly out there now about the platform for everybody to get their hands around it, but who would ever bet against the success of that team? They are just masterful in what they do. Switch is a massive success. And I think Switch 2 will be as well.”

He then talked more about how supporting other company’s consoles leads to more people getting to play the studio’s games. Not everyone can afford three different consoles and the games that go with it. The goal is to get as many people playing games as possible.

“I want everybody to be able to play on Xbox and it does mean more of our games shipping on more platforms, not just PlayStation — we love the work that we do with Nintendo, we love what we do with Valve on Steam, and that’s going to continue, we’ll just continue to do more of it.

“Because what we learned is put the games first. Make sure the games can be as great as they can. We love the experience on our own hardware, our own platform. But our games will show up in more and more places, no doubt.”

End Of The Console Wars?

In the past few years, console gaming studios have been more willing to work with one another. What changed from the early 2000s? The rise of PC gaming might have something to do with it. In December 2024, spending on console games dropped by 21%, while spending on PC games rose by 13%. More people are starting to use their PC as their gaming console. Many people have a PC that they use for many other things like streaming, working, or editing videos and pictures. Having it also be their gaming console saves a lot of money. The need for a console isn’t there as there are many great titles to choose from on Steam.

Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony might be trying to join forces in order to boost their industry. They would rather a person play their games on a rival’s console than not at all. This has been a huge hurdle for some. I myself have missed out on certain games because I don’t have a certain console. If there was more support, like what Spencer is talking about, there is a better chance that many other gamers would play a wider variety of games.

Final Thoughts

The Switch was a massive success, and fans are already excited about the Switch 2. It looks like another innovative console from the studio that brought us one of the most recognizable video game characters in history. Mario won’t be the only character fans will see on the new console. It looks like there will be a long list of games for gamers to binge on once the console hits shelves.
