Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is continuing the tradition of innovation in the popular series. Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released in 2007, the company has been bringing in new game modes, guns, maps, characters, and cosmetic upgrades. The game has also started to crossover with popular entertainment franchises. Most recently, there was a Squid Game event after Netflix released the second season of the global phenomenon. Rumors are starting to swirl that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) could be heading to the game soon.
Black Ops 6 And TMNT?
The rumor comes from data miners. Many people spend hours searching the code for nuggets of upcoming events. Realityuk_ and HeyImAlaix are the miners who are hinting the popular 80s cartoon could be coming to Black Ops 6. User HeyImAlaix said that there is an exclusive event and game mode coming at some point based around the four crimefighting brothers. Realityuk_ elaborated on this by saying that each character will have their own special abilities and powers.
This is actually not the first time a character from TMNT has been in a Call of Duty game. In 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, Shredder was a playable character. Players could purchase the ability to play as the famed villain, and fans loved it. Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo did not appear in the game at all, making a possible appearance in Black Ops 6, their debut in the franchise. The studio has confirmed nothing, but fans are already hoping this rumor is true.
Not Their First Crossover
TMNT has crossed over into other video games before. In the popular fighting game Injustice 2, the turtles were part of an expansion pack of characters players could buy. Players could choose to play as any of the four turtles. While the moves were mostly the same, each character had a little different flavor. This makes sense as each character is a ninja turtle but fights in their own way and with their own weapons. The rumor suggests this would be the case in Call of Duty as well.
It remains to be seen whether any other characters from TMNT will make an appearance. An event could mean Shredder could reappear as an antagonist. Bebop and Rocksteady would also be a surprise to fans as well. In terms of other heroes, April, Casey Jones, and Splinter would also make fans jump for joy. It all depends on how big the developers want to go. Most fans would be pleased with just the turtles appearing, but going the extra mile can often pay off in a big way.
Final Thoughts
Despite data miners often being right, this should be seen as a rumor until anything is actually confirmed by the studio. However, we do know that games like Call of Duty are starting to seek out crossover opportunities with famous franchises. Fortnite has been doing this for years with great success and shows no signs of stopping. Even with the popularity of the franchise, the studio is always looking for a way to get new players into the fold. Will this turn out to be true, or will it simply be an exciting rumor?
