Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers. The franchise has found huge success partnering with some of the most recognizable names in pop culture, both past and present. Fans are constantly trying to figure out what crossover is next. According to a recent leak, the next franchise could send could be sending players to a planet far away. The latest rumor is Epic Games is partnering with the billion-dollar James Cameron franchise, Avatar.
Fortnite Bringing In Avatar?
This is not to be confused with Avatar: The Last Airbender which Fortnite has had in the game. No, this collaboration would send players to the fictional planet of Pandora to meet up with the Navi. HypeX, an account that often leaks news from the game, posted an update revealing that two skins from the movie will be available soon for players to purchase. Jake Sulley (in Navi form) and Neytiri will be the charactesr from the franchise in the game. The skins are based on the most recent release of the franchise Avatar: The Way of Water.
The original movie released in 2009 and was a box office sensation. The planet of Pandora captivated audiences and it crossed the $1 billion mark on just the 19th day of release. It sat dormant for awhile but now has reentered the pop culture sphere. Walt Disney World opened a themed land based on the planet with two rides that immerse guests in the bioluminescent world. Cameron has also started to expand the universe with more movies. 2022’s Way Of Water is one of four sequels planned to release in the next six years, with the third installment, Fire & Ash set for this year.
Cultural Phenomenon
Avatar is one of the most unique popular franchises. The leak also indicated Iron Man is coming back to the game, likely with some new skins. His popularity comes from decades of comic books combined with the released of the recent movies starring Robert Downey Jr. The Navi were created for this movie and have only existed for a decade and a half. The fact this franchise has caught on this fast is a testament to the world building Cameron is able to do. Many were skeptical that Way of Water would succeed due to the 13 year gap between movies. It ended up making $2.3 billion worldwide.
In terms of Fortnite this could be a very cool collaboration. The draw of the franchise is the planet of Pandora. No doubt the developers would craft a fantastical world for players to immerse themselves in. Whether it is a carbon copy of the movie featuring the famous Hallelujah Mountains or a mash up of familiar locations and Pandora, the maps should be legendary. Obviously, this is still a rumor and should be taken as such. Until the studio confirms it, this is all speculation. However, the collaboration makes sense and this leaker has been right in the past. We will have to wait and see whether gamers will be able to fight on the world of Pandora sometime soon.
