DC Comics boasts some of the most recognizable heroes in pop culture. However, only Batman has been able to successfully sustain a video game franchise. Wonder Woman’s game is reportedly in crisis, and a game based on The Flash was canceled after the movie bombed. WB Games as a whole is struggling, but a new PC and mobile game will hopefully be a positive change for the company. The game is based on the comic book series Dark Nights: Metal and is set to release next month.
DC Comics DC: Dark Legion
The game, DC: Dark Legion is launching on PC and mobile game based on the late-2000s comic book series. Players can download the game from FunPlus starting on March 14. The game allows players to recruit their favorite heroes and villains from DC Comics and use them to fight off threats from the multiverse. The gameplay is twofold with one part allowing players to build rooms and train heroes in the Batcave and the other exploring iconic locations and battling enemies.
The trailer showcases an impressive cast. While Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are obvious choices, the trailer also shows deeper cuts like John Constantine and Deathstroke being available. Locations like Metropolis, Atlantis, and Gotham City will be available for players to explore. From the first look at the gameplay, it looks like your standard on-the-go game, allowing players to spend a little time training heroes and battling without having to spend hours and hours grinding.
The Storyline
DC: Dark Legion won’t follow the storyline of Dark Nights: Metal exactly, but it is important to have some background on the storyline. It centers around the Dark Multiverse, a multiverse that exists beneath the well-known DC-Multiverse. A dark beast named Barbatos lives there and apparently has marked Batman as the person who could release him upon the multiverse. There’s a whole bunch of different versions of Batman and Superman that appear and it leads to a final battle with Barbatos.
The game will likely not have as complicated of a story as the DC Comics issues. However, if players do want to check out the series beforehand, it is very well-reviewed. There may also be some characters in the game that will give a nod to the comic book series, and only people who have read it will understand the references.
Final Thoughts
This likely isn’t the game many DC Comics fans are looking forward to. The next Batman game is years away, and there is no indication anything else is in the works. Still, fans of the iconic heroes can have some fun when the game releases on March 14.
