In Marvel Rivals, one hero stands apart, possessed only by the powers of a common squirrel. Heroes armed with unbreakable shields, super strength, or the ability to fly stand next to Doreen Green, who eats nuts and kicks butts. In the Marvel Universe, she can be deployed with other superheroes in this team-based PVP shooter and assembled in squads to save us all. If you need a tail-up, here is how to play Squirrel Girl.
Origins of Squirrel Girl
Doreen Green first appeared in Marvel Comics by Will Murray and Steve Ditko back in 1991. Unlike several other heroes, Green has a more light-hearted attitude and story. She derived her power from a genetic anomaly that empowers her to communicate with squirrels. Her history has taken her to be part of the Avengers, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones, as well as her own stories.
In Marvel Rivals, she aids her team as a long-range specialist who is able to shoot from afar and even bounce her shots around corners if needed. Compared to other duelists in the game, she has a slightly higher health pool. She is especially good at taking long shots while staying safe near or even behind cover.
Her Primary and Secondary Abilities
Her primary fire is her Burst Acorn. It is a large Acorn she shoots from her slingshot that explodes when it hits its target. It also has the ability to bounce off walls or floors at least twice before it explodes. Because her main attack can be an arc and bounce, she can use the terrain with great effect.
Her secondary ability is her Squirrel Blockade. When activated while hitting her target, this large projectile briefly holds her foe in place and deals damage. This Blockade ability can be charged, making it roll faster toward her enemies. Holding a target in place is the perfect way to land a few more well-placed hits.
Taste Tail Again and Again
The next ability she has is her Tail Bounce. This is her most effective mobility tool that shoots her straight up, tripling her jump. The Tail Bounce is perfect for getting her out of tight spots as well as escaping or getting to the high ground. When it is used, it briefly grants Squirrel Girl immunity to opponents’ crowd-control attacks.
There is one problem that every player has, and that is the cooldown times with character abilities. Squirrel Girl has her Mammal Bond, which reloads her Burst Acorn and resets her cooldown time on her Blockade and Tail Bounce cooldown times. This means you can use some of her abilities twice in quick succession, making her twice as dangerous.
Little Friends Are Big Friends
Now we come to Squirrel Girl’s ultimate. Once charged up, she can use her Unbeatable Squirrel Tsunami, where she summons a group of squirrels who charge forward in a V formation, trampling everything in their path with those tiny claws. The player can aim where they want their stampede to go as well as bounce off walls and terrain. It also just doesn’t go in a straight line but will also seek out nearby enemy players who are close by.
In Marvel Rivals, there is a pair ability where a hero finds themselves with a certain teammate and gains another ability. For Squirrel Girl, her partner is Spider-Man, and when fighting alongside, she can use her Webbed Acorn. When she uses it, it has a radius effect that ensnares enemies, holding them to the ground.
Does Come With Problems
With all those pros, there doesn’t seem to be anything that could stop her in the game. However, she does have a weak side. She doesn’t have a defensive ability. Instead, she must escape or temporarily delay an enemy for a moment. She also doesn’t have the ability to heal herself. Her main attack also has a sharp damage distance falloff, which means it does less damage the farther the shot. Also, that shot doesn’t do any critical damage.
Another drawback is when she uses her Squirrel Blackade and Webbed Acorn on her enemies and has them stuck to the floor, it doesn’t stop them from being able to shoot back. Then there is her Squirrel Tsunami. It can be avoided without much effort. It only hits targets on the ground, which gives characters who can fly or get to higher ground a good reason to laugh. Not only that, but the squirrels in the tsunami also have a health bar, so a well-balanced opponent team who knows their stuff can take it out if it’s far away before it hits them.
Girl Squirrel Power
You put all that together, and Doreen Green is one mean computer science student at Empire State University. As she helps the Avengers with her best Squirrel friend named Tippy-Toe, they have some hilarious banter in the game. She is more than a march if played right and can make you look twice at those slender furry friends shooting up a tree with their bushy tails right behind them.
